Canon Digital Video Camera and tripod

We used this digital camera to film all of our footage. We were able to use different effects on it too such as pulling in and out of focus and zooming in and out. We used 2 camera and 2 tripods so that we could film the same footage from two different angles, making our video look more professional.

Movie Editing Software

We used iMovie to edit our footage and there were many affects that it allowed us to use.

We were able to use colourisation on iMovie. There were many different colours to choose from, but pink looked the most effective.

On this shot we used an effect called ‘Romantic’ which blurred the corners to give it a dreamlike effect. We used this on other parts of this video too where it fit.

There were many times when we took advantage of being able to speed up and slow down the footage.

We slowed it down here to make it look more sad.

We slowed this part down so you can see her throwing everything off the table.

We used a rewind feature on iMovie so that you could see her taking all the make up off again.

This is another effect we used which gave the shot an ‘old film’ look.

There was also a tool that allowed you to add text and then add affects like this which wrote the test again behind it in a faded shade.

We had a montage of shots of the boy and girl eating a sweet which we were still images which we then uploaded onto iMovie and then inserted into the shots.

We used an effect here which blacked the corners so it looks like we’re watching her through a hole.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? We wanted to use split

screens, but unfortunately we could not on iMovie. But we found an alternative which was inserting another mini screen in the corner. It worked well for this shot because it showed them both on the phone.

This was sped up so that she is just standing there while everyone is moving all around her.

Another tool used was precision editing, which we used to make the lip syncing better – which from our audience feedback people said was very good.

Before After

There are lots of effects we used to make the image look better. We used a selective colour tool to enhance certain colours. For example,

we selected the greens and reds and made them a lot brighter so that they stand out. We also used a smart blur which takes away any

flaws in her skim. The grass around her was slightly blurred so that she stands out more. The image was also brightened, highlighted

and the exposure changed to make it generally brighter. In Photoshop you operate in layers so that you can change the order which images/text appear.

It also means you can change and move around each particular

item on your creation. For example, if each of the stars is a

separate layer, so if I want to move one, I can choose that

particular layer and simply move it with effecting the rest of the

image.

This is also useful for layering text on top of images because you can move each bit of text around more easily, or even

delete that piece of text, but still not affecting the rest.

The eye dropper tool proved to be very useful because if I wanted to write a piece of text, but use one of the same colours that I had already used

before, I could just pick it. This made it easier to keep to the house colours. Select layer of the star you want

Now move the star

If you wanted to move a certain layer such as on of the stars, you select the layer, and can simply move it without fuss.

I wanted to make this part the same blue as I used on the front cover.

So I chose the fill tool, clicked the eye dropper on the blue bit on the front cover, and then I have that colour to fill the back cover in the same blue.

Desktop publishing software

We used Photoshop to create our ancillary tasks because out of all the programmes we felt it had the best uses and effects and were also more used to using it

It was very good for manipulating still images and making them look a lot better.

Question 4 continued I needed to use the capitol records logo on my magazine advert, but all of the images had

white around them and looked no good. So I used the magnetic lasso tool which allowed

me to take all the white bits out.

For the black box on my magazine advert for the tour date information, instead of having it completely black, I wanted it to be slightly faded and see through, so there is an option where you can change the opacity to a lower percentage.

blogger.com

This is the website I used as my online diary to document all decisions made. There are features which proved very useful such as inserting images and hyperlinks. The blog site allowed me to update all the changes being made and post all the stages of my planning.

Software used within my blog

I used slide share on my blog because it allowed me to upload my PowerPoint presentations onto my blog so that my blog wasn’t all big blocks of text.

I also used Flickr which lets you upload pictures and then make slide shows of them so that loads of pictures don’t clutter up your blog, but can be in a neat slide show

I used YouTube to embed videos onto my blog so that I can illustrate what I’m talking about to the viewers.

Still Cameras

We used two digital cameras while filming. This was for images to use in the ancillary task, but we also needed images to insert into the music

video, such as these two images:

Dell Webcam centre

I used the webcam which is integrated in my laptop to film myself discussing part 3 of my evaluation.

A website called prezi helped me to make an interesting presentation when I analysed music videos.

Question 4 continued

We used a website called dafont.com which allowed us to download from a range of different fonts. This is the website where we got the font for our ancillary texts.
