The Difference in Front Cover

In preliminary task I put very little thought into my front cover and took only a few shots on the camera with no adjustment in the lighting, as well is very little adjustments on Photoshop such as brightness and contrast. furthermore I put little thought on the layout of my front cover as well as the colour scheme and house style.

I realised I needed to do lots of research before I could start my final construction as I needed to consider the many different aspects and stages of creating my magazine. Researching other magazines before I took the photos and adjusted them on Photoshop helped too, as I could compare and contrast what actual hip hop magazines had done, so I knew what was needed to get a professional looking magazine.

So when I was taking the photos I considered the lighting, the use of shadows to improve the professionalism of the images, I then extended my knowledge of Photoshop and adjusted the brightness and contrast, in order to make my front cover look better with many other effects on the image.

The Font, colour scheme, layout and house style had all largely improved as I’d again done plenty of research.

The Difference in Contents

My preliminary contents page was very unconventional as I took no photos at all which means the magazine doesn’t really connect with the audience, and therefore didn't really have to use many Photoshop tools making it look extremely basic.

When starting my contents page I learnt that a photo was necessary in order to capture the audiences attention and encourage them to read the rest of the magazine, which my preliminary task probably wouldn’t have done. Furthermore I needed to manipulate the contents page more than my preliminary task in order to make it more professional.

The colour scheme and font on my preliminary task weren’t thought through and had no theme to it, whereas I feel I have progressed since then, I did this by researching what type of font to use and looking at common colour schemes in hip hop magazines. Using my focus group to see what my target audience liked as well.

• A developed understanding on how to use Adobe Photoshop• Expanded my knowledge on new programs such as Adobe InDesign. • Learnt how to use a blog – update post, create pages, and convert media files and embed presentations from slide share • I learnt how to alter, change and edit images in Photoshop and save them in the correct format, which allowed me to take

across to Adobe InDesign and then try and use my knowledge to build my magazine.• Learnt the importance of continuous saving to prevent my work being deleted.

Looking back at my preliminary task , I feel I that this experience was a work in progress, from which I have learnt many new skills and developed my understanding and my current knowledge about the production of music magazines and the science behind it all , for example, what social groups certain magazines appeal to and why , how to attract a specific audience, its was just the depth of research and planning I had to do , in order to make my music magazine successful. Taking on board the feedback, which I got after making my school magazine, and creating a focus group for my research on music magazines, I believe I have progressed a long way, in the completion of my finished media product. I now have a stronger knowledge and understanding on programs such as Adobe Photoshop Cs3 and Adobe InDesign , also I know how to update my blog ,and edit new posts and create pages also, to upload , convert and make a wider range of videos which express my understanding on technologies which have made my magazine come to life.I have now developed my knowledge and understanding on many aspects, throughout out the process of making my media product, such as:
