Fiona Craig was born in Sydney, Australia.Growing up in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, Fiona experimented with arts and crafts at home with materials and encouragement provided by her parents, Alison and Allan Craig, a fibre artist and an architect respectively. She attended local art groups, including Margo Lewers' Studio with tutor Mirabel Fitzgerald. She also participated in various Summer Schools at East Sydney Technical College, such as drawing, painting, jewellery and weaving, and a Residential Week School in the Megalong Valley Studio with tutor Bill Salmon. Fiona appeared several times with other young artists in the ABC programOn the Insideand her artworks were often discussed on the ABC radio programsThe ArgonautsandYoung World.Fiona is both trained in various academic disciplines and self taught. Amongst other excellent teachers, she benefited from studying drawing with Jocelyn Maughan and print-making with Michael Kempson. She worked for many years doing portraits by commission, and developed series of landscapes influenced by the Blue Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage listed site. She diversified into Australian native flora and other flowers that caught her interest. Fiona herself has taught art courses and workshops for adults and children for many years.
