AS Production For my AS Production the genre of my opening sequence was Drama. Other examples within this genre are Titanic, Schindler’s List, Casablanca, Rocky and Slumdog Millionaire. Sub genres of Drama include Crime Drama, Historical Drama, Psychodrama, Melodrama and Docudrama. The category in which I would put my opening sequence in would be Melodrama.

Conventions of DramaTechnical Symbolic Written/AudioLighting:The bleak lighting of a dull cool tone is what is necessary for the melancholy atmosphere to be brought across. Camera Angles: To establish the characters journey and development, I used a long shot to demonstrate the opening of going on to the plane and showing an almost “life” size angle. I used medium shots to convey either the character and their movement/action they are carrying out to build the intensity of the storyline.Camera Movements:I used Dolly and Pan

My Production: Adheres Conventions

My Opening Sequence exhibits real life situations with realistic characters, settings and stories. It portrays the journey of the character and development. The intensity of the character builds up as the storyline builds. The purpose of the dramatic storyline is to move the audience emotionally which is what I believe to adhere, not only with the soundtrack building as the story builds, but the storyline in general is sad and devastating.

It depicts hardships, difficulty and pain through inner realistic struggles. The audience can relate to the character as they could feel sympathetic for her story and how it has affected my character. It is structured with climaxes and anti climaxes to keep the audience emotionally attached and the tension ongoing. There is a form of realisation at the end as the storyline becomes more serious and realistic.

My Production: Challenges Conventions

My Opening Sequence may challenge conventions of Drama as usually the storyline ends in happiness or favour for the character but not in this case. Unfortunately the character was so depressed from the loss of her husband that she had to take her life due to it becoming too much
