I have included these social app because the majority of our target audience are aged from around 6-15 years old, younger children below the age of 11 may not have these apps but it’s more than likely for kids around 12 to 15 to be interested in social media such as Facebook and youtube.

I have included these space themed apps because alien blast falls in to the Sci -Fi genre and there for gamers that play it may take an interest to space.

I’ve included apps such as flappy bird and snake, because the game play in these games is simple, and aimed at achievers as the game play is relatively straight forward and the people who play it focus on achieving goals quickly like in alien blast.

I included the i player app because it provides entertainment for audiences of all types

I’ve included mainstream casual games such as angry birds and cut the rope because it’s known that these games are of interest to children of around 8-13 years old

Feedback on logo design 2.

• I have chosen to use this icon for my final design, however based on feedback i am going to make some changes. I want to change the design of the aliens so that they fit in better with the text as at the moment they look a bit out of place. I also want to re illustrate them so that they have neater edges and outlines, to make them stand out more and look bolder. I am also going to use the app grid so that i can position the text and images in the correct places for it to be the right size for an I phone app frame.

This is my new alien I have created for the app logo, I created it in Photoshop. I have created one for now but when putting the logo together i hope to make a few more in different colors.

I created the overall body of the alien by using the elliptical marquee tool and creating a circle ithen cut a small circle from the bottom of this shape to create two small stumps, representing the aliens legs. Once completing this i selected two shades of green used the magic tool to select the shape and filled it using the gradient tool.

To create the black outline i duplicated the layer this green shape had been made in and changed the color from green to black enlarging it so that it was visible beneath the green shape.

Having completed creating the overall body shape of my alien i then progressed on to making its face.

I decided to choose the facial expression of shut eyes in a ;X; shape along with a shut mouth and stuck out tongue. I decided this because this demonstraigts the aliens are dead, relating to the game as the game play is based on killing aliens.

To do this I used the rectangular marquee tool too create long rectangles for the x’s and mouth, the tongue i drew by hand using the brush tool. I also used the gradient tool too fill these rectangles contrasting a grey and black together.

This is the first draft of my logo, it’s been created using different shades of black and grey, this enables me to identify the different shades that will be in my logo when put in to color, e.g. the tongue is going to be a lighter color that the body of the alien because ihave used a lighter done of grey to fill it. However the outline of the aliens body is going to be much darker than the body because it has been filled with a darker tone of grey which is almost black.

Once i completed my first icon, adding in the tones of grey, i made a second logo, however focused my attention on the app icon grid being displayed behind the logo in the background. In the first grey version of my logo the sides of the aliens are being cut off. In this second logo i have adjusted the position of the aliens on the right and left sides of the middle alien, bringing them in to be more central so that the border of the app icon grid is fully visible. I also slightly adjusted the size of the “blast” text making it a tiny bit smaller and moving it up as the bottom left corner of the B was slightly overlapping the border in the first app logo.

When it came to deciding the colors for my aliens i did three different experiments. Firstly i looked at the color wheel and took in to account what colors work together in the different groups of primary, secondary and tertiary.

Blue violet, red orange, and yellow green are all tertiary colors. And so i thought i would firstly use these three colors for my three individual aliens. I think they work really well together they don’tfade each other out or look too much.

The second color experiment I did was using three primary colors. Red blue and yellow. I felt this didn’t work as well as the yellowdidn’t really work well against the grey and black gradient outline. I also want the colors of the three aliens to be a similar tone/shade,I think the red and yellow are too different to each other to work together in the same image.

The final experiment i did was using secondary colors, orange, violet and green. I think they look ok but the first color experiment using the tertiary colors is my most proffered, not only because the three colors work well together but thy also have reference to the game because there are red and green aliens in the game play. There are no yellow or orange aliens in it.

App logo feedback

• This is the first draft of my logo, as you can see, the aliens are holding different facial expressions to the ones they have in the previous design. I decided to change them to give the logo more personality and variety. I also experimented with the effects in the alien layers, giving them an outer glow and thicker black outline using the stroke.

• I decided to choose a star themed background, fitting in with the theme of space. I also decided to have this as the dark blue looks good against the color of the aliens.

Final app logo design

After receiving feed back i made adjustments to the following things: - The brightness of the background. I decided to adjust the brightness so that it’s darker making the aliens stand out more against it.- Outer glow on the aliens. I added this effect by double clicking the layer the aliens were in giving me a menu of different filters and effects. I ticked the outer glow effect and increased the size so that it spread across just the right amount of space with out overlapping any text or alien facial features.I also got rid out the white outline which was on each alien in my first draft by un ticking the outline box. I thought the outline looked a bit tacky and not very good against the background.

The glow gives the logo really nice retro, 80’s feel, fitting in well with the theme of the game play, being retro/classic.

The aliens are positioned and centralized well together, really drawing in attention to the app.

The text font is nice, however rather than the inside of it being black you could change it to something else as with it being black it doesn’t stand out much against the black background despite the green outline.

This is my draft idea number one, to create this design i used the shape tool in Photoshop for the stars,

and used the planet from research however made adjustments to it by changing the color, redrawing the outline to make it bolder and added some shading of different tones, creating a more 3d effect.

This is my draft number two, i created this following the draft number one, by deleting the 3 other stars around the planet. I prefer this design because it’sless busy. I think having four stars around the planets make the t shirtover the top in one place and the rest too spacious.

T-shirt feedback.

Page 14: Graphic design

After receiving feedback I came up with my final design, consisting of three different planets running from small to large diagonally down across the shirt. I also had my own ideato use the shape tool, creating a circle to place beneath each planet giving the T shirt a slight 3d effect as they look as if they’re shadows to each planet. Having decided on my design i then did different color experiments with my target audience in mind....

This is the first color way of my T-shirt, I decided to include blue and pink so that the t-shirt is uni sex, rather than using colors only males would like or females. I decided to use a dark color for the drop circle giving it a shadow effect, and a yellow for the shape tucked behind the planet, representing a star. This is my 2nd color way

choice, it is more of a masculine theme using black and green. I decided the green color for the planets because it stands out really nice against the black, and fits in with the alien theme. The only negative thing about this is it may not sell as well as only males will really be interested in wearing it.

This is my 3rd color way choice. The main color being used is purple, in different shades for the different objects, being the planets drop shadows and T shirt color. I think this works well with the yellow too, and could be worn by both girls and boys.

Page 15: Graphic design

I have decided for this to be my final design, the reason being because i think the color choice works well, and also appeals to a wide audience.

The planet is really nice, and looks good with the circle behind it because it makes it stand out more than it did without it.

Having the largest one at the bottom makes the shirt look a bit bottom heavy, experiment but adjusting the position so that the planets go from big to small rather than small to big.
