Initial Concept My initial idea revolves around my favourite Disney film as a child which is Alice in wonderland. The reason being not only because I enjoy the film but I think the themes are still highly important. The idea of being lost in your own world without an escape where everything is surreal. The style is very important in the film as there's a clear difference between the reality we see her in at the start compared to when she enters wonderland a place interpreted in her head where creatures can talk and everything is surreal to the world she lives in. the protagonist character Alice is shown to be vulnerable and naïve and oblivious to the world around her which applies to most children to this day in modern society the film is buried in todays society and still holds key themes and morals which makes the film timeless and applicable to the ideas I want to show. the Disney film is controversial as it doesn’t necessarily hold a happy ending and some call the film a 75 minute nightmare for a poor young girl

interpretationFor my idea I wanted to make wonderland a scary place that relates to our modern day of drugs alcohol depression and anxiety many believe the film has small hidden references that relate to drugs. Wonderland isn't a place but almost a nightmare dreams don’t make sense which relates to wonderland as it makes no sense meaning Alice is always lost. Drugs is a very central theme in society and also establishes the target audience as young teens rather than it being a child movie in which the Disney version is rated U.

The film also focuses on the idea of going from a child to becoming an adult as Alice is engaged in a romance quest for her own identity and growth, for some understanding of logic, rules, the games people play, authority, time, and death. This is shown by the use of the drink me and eat me which she faces challenges of always been too big or either too small she can never find the perfect size or the right balance

I also like the idea of there being no happy ending throughout the film allice is constantly lost and miserable resulting in the end where she wakes up and moves on with life I think this is a true representation of the real worlds ideology as not everything has a happy ending which I hope to portray in my piece

Key Morals Personal GrowthThe most important metaphor in the story is one of growth. We see Alice grow from tall to short and from big to small. Growing up is about changing body size, dealing with ups and downs, and feeling confident or insecure about oneself. When Alice eats, she grows when she drinks, she shrinks. She soon learns to use the resources in her world to control her personal growth.

Develop your IdentityThe characters in wonderland continually ask Alice who she is. As a result, she questions her identity. When we have doubts about who we are and what we stand for, it affects our entire life.

Say What you Really MeanAlice is continually told to say what she means. How often do you really say what you mean? When did you last have a really meaningful conversation? When you connect with people who share similar values, you will find that you share more meaningful thoughts, feelings and ideas.

Follow the Advice you Give Yourself“Alice generally gave herself good advice (though she very seldom followed it).”it?

Relating back to my research project? The use of modern day music. In each one of my three focal films they’ve all featured modern music which goes in against the time period shown in each of the films. I have chosen to use Bryson Tillers debut album TRAPSOUL as my films score and soundtrack this is because the album itself tells a story and even though there's 12 songs each one blends together to create one big track the album reflects the story as the songs at the start are about being introduced to the world and discovering new things whereas the midpoint of the album starts getting grimy and becomes quite dark which is reflective of the ideas I would like to portray its also a direct link to Gatsby as Baz used post modern rap mixed with jazz in order to reflect the roaring 20s. Whereas I feel like rap reflects the current issues of drug and alcohol abuse.

I also like the use of voice over similar to what the character nick caraway does in the Great Gatsby whereas he's telling his story from his perception and his ideology of events in his head it allows the audience to get inside the characters mind and process there thoughts and feelings.

Continued… The use of the iconic flashback start will be a predominant feature of my film as its used effectively in all three of my focal films. It allows the audience to know the ending without seeing the film. While some may see this as a spoiler Baz portrays its so that it makes you want to view the film to see what happens in the end. I had the idea of starting with a flashback to when my protagonist is older and she's reflecting on her “wonderland” and the mistakes she made as a child

Cinematography + editing

The use of long shots to show the extravaganza and everything on a larger scale. Baz is well known for his camp and over the top party and ball scenes. Obviously being on no budget and being limited to space and equipment I wouldn’t be able to create something that would even come on par to the scenes so instead I can substitute by making my cinematography feel more dramatic than it already is creating the illusion that everything is bigger.

The use of zooms will be heavily predominant in order to show how it’s a dream and none of it makes any sense which relates to the wonderland aspects and allows me to make specific links to my research piece

Continued… Mise en scene

In terms of costume my film is of a different genre and time period so therefore wont follow any specific costume ideas as each film baz does the costume changes but its always very theatrical and feels more like a stage production then a fil. I could follow ideas about the costume by making it reminiscent of the Alice in wonderland timeline by sticking to the mise en scene in each of the films (aka the blue dress)

Location is also a central points in which I have many different directions to go. I want to follow my research by having the location be reflective of the time period and for everything to be like art which is seen when Juliet dies in Romeo and Juliet and throughout Gatsby from the use of art deco. Gatsby has always fascinated me in the way the everything in new York and long island is so beautiful and well crafted its given me a goal and inspiration for my own findings
