visual storytelling workshop

The hkiyany® Storytelling Workshop in creekside Dubai is an intensive, hands-on, collaborative experience in advanced multimedia storytelling.

A Unique Approach The primary goal of the hkiyany® Storytelling Workshop is to create an intimate, character-driven documentary that is ready for publication. Participants will work directly with hkiyany® producers, in the field and in the editing suite, as part of a crew dedicated to telling a story. Participants will create their stories from character around the creekside under the direction of hkiyany® producers in a collaborative, educational and hands-on environment.

Who Should Apply?  This is not an introductory workshop but a workshop for seasoned storytellers who have experience and are looking to further expand their storytelling capabilities.

Participants will be working at a fast-paced professional level, moving from story concept to a completed multimedia story in a week.

Enrollment is very limited. Teams are very small with two or three participants and one or two observers.

Workshop requirements Applicants should have a working knowledge of audio recorders, video and still cameras and non-linear editing software.

Applicants must also be able to work with others in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, and be willing to fulfill an assigned role on the crew.

Workshop Participant Roles A Field ReporterA workshop participant who gathers original story elements in the field using still photography, audio and video. A hkiyany® Field ProducerA hkiyany® producer who is dedicated to the team for the entire workshop, instructing and directing the field reporter(s) during the story-gathering phase of the project. hkiyany® staff will also, at times, shoot portions of the story, allowing participants an opportunity to learn from experienced shooters.

A hkiyany® producerA hkiyany® producer who is dedicated to the team for the entire workshop, that is primarily responsible for the creation and direction of the team’s narrative.

Each participant will focus primarily on either reporting or editing, but will collaborate extensively and learn aspects of each skill during the workshop.
