My name is Anne Mae Verzosa

Novio. I was born on June 17,1996 in

Bernardino Hospital in Quezon City and I

grew up in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City

with my parents and aunties. My father,

Jimmy S. Ang is a half Filipino and half

Chinese. My mother is Sharon Verzosa

Novio, a pure Filipina. I love them very

much. They are the very best part of my life

and I will not be complete without them. They

are my number one inspiration why I strive to

be the best daughter that a parents may have. 3

I am their only child and I was

named Anne Mae after the famous

cartoon called “Animè”. My father

said before, I looked like an anime

character particularly Sailor Moon

and Jackie in Zenki , that is so

they named me after Animè. They

called me by my nickname “Kai” or

“Pingkay”.5

And it’s still fun

because I have my best

friends. I remembered when I

was young, I really have

many friends and I always

liked being outside our house.

I used to be a typical kid

who did not stayed much inside the

house and always want to play and

go everywhere with my friends.

My talent I can say is dancing,

but that was before, I’m wondering

if it still now my talent. I go

everywhere with my friends just to

compete with others, we called it

“showdown”.10

I was allowed by my parents to do what I want to.

At first, I think that they did not care about me that

much but as I grew older, I came to realize that they

are just like that because they want me to be free and to

learn to stand on my own. Other than that, I am glad

at the thought how much they trust me and I am very

thankful to that. Because of them, I learned how to be

strong, independent and to discipline myself in every

aspects of my life.11

I started attending school in Pasig where we

temporarily live at that time when I was three years

old. But because I was too young at that time, I

was not able to finish every class I attended. I was

five years old then when we came back to Caloocan

and I transferred to Kalayaan Elementary School

as a grade one student. It was a difficult time

because I was in an adjustment period. I was

alienated with the new environment but in my case I

took it as a challenge. Since then, I acquainted the

atmosphere and graduated as third honor in grade six

section two. 13

I was twelve years old when I enter first year in High School. For

me it is so complicated since I was in section one and I need some time to

get along with my new classmates which are all very competitive. So I

study hard to adapt to the system. And the result, good grades at the end

of the year.

I was section one again when I enter second

year. Being at a cream section is a tough one

because there are lot of things to do,

assignments, projects, activities and etc.

Sometimes, I thought of suicidal just to get

rid of all the things that are needed to be done

but then I get used to it and later on I enjoy

it.

16

I participate in jingles, dances, drama class, arnis classes and other

activities/contests. By then, I was able to have a circle of friends too for

real, and my ache for belongingness was eased. I was in this year too when

I started joining pageants inside and outside our school. I always do my

best in our class, so I maintain having good grades and I was able to

maintain my section till fourth year high school.

. It was in third year when I started really

enjoying high school life. I had new found friends

and have established deeper relationship with my

former classmates. It is at this time when I first

experience going home too late, sleep while my feet

still a mess, physically tired from a whole day

practice and staying awake whole night to finish

rush works. It became a daily routine. Luckily, I

graduated rank fourteen of the graduating class.

Overall, I can say that truly high school life

was one of the happiest moments of my life for in those times

I found friends which tend to be my classmates since first

year high and that I treated as my brothers and sisters. Our

unforgettable teacher, that for some time became good to us

and acts as our second parents. Every year at vacation, we

never failed to catch up with each other’s, we fix dates for our

get together with our fourth year adviser Sir Hershey

Monzon and go on an outing for fun.

I took up only entrance exam from two known

universities, UP my dream school and PUP.

Unfortunately, I am not qualified at UP

Diliman only on Los Baños. Out of practicality

I chose to study at PUP. At first, I had a

hard time catching up college life. It was just

that it is not that easy to make friends with

someone you did not know. It is like I become a

first year high school student again, searching for

belongingness and looking for someone who can be

my friend. But life must go on…22

Page 23: My autobiography

23

I do things on my own and later on, little by little I was able to

have a circle of friends again but change is the only permanent thing in

this world. Those people I thought I was not able to befriend become

my closest friend and those whom at the beginning easily become my

friend had new set circle of friends, somehow sad but that was life. I am

too focused to my studies that I do not give time for myself to have

some fun. These bores me, I say there is nothing different being in

college. They say college life is different from high school, it must,

suppose to be. Until I am second year, everything changed. I am in a

new block, with new classmates. New set of friends, more established

circle of friends and other classmates that are easy to get along with. I

was contented. I will not be alone.

And there is also this man from out of

nowhere, unexpectedly changes everything, add

more color to my college life. It is he, who

brightens up my dull love life, gives me such

happiness and other emotions that I have

never felt in my eighteen years of existence

here on earth. He sets as one of my

inspiration to succeed in everything that I

will do. He accepts me for who I am. I can

be at my best and be at my worst with him.

He is the best boy I ever had.

But still there is no one who will never can take place God in my life. Above all else, He is the one who is always been there for me from the beginning. I would never exchange my faith on Him against anything else.. Problems, those are part of life. In hard times or good times I always put in mind that in everything, God has a purpose. I am very thankful to God for letting me experience all things that will teach me to become a good person. They are just tests, and overcoming those molds me into a better person that I once never think I will be. I am not perfect but surely I have a perfect God that is always there to guide me through in every step I will make. Glory Be Unto God!
