PROPS LIST:
By Zak Labiad:
1.) THE LEAD:
• The lead is the only apparent sign that the invisible dog is actually apparent,
and present within the film. The lead is rather long (ensuring hilarity), and
easy to hold and manipulate, ensuring practicality for the actor (me) in
convincing the audience that a an invisible beast is actually there, being
restrained by his owner. The Lead is made from pieces of fabric, woven
tightly together, in the colour of blue, and yellow. These primary colours
help to exemplify one of the main themes of childhood and simplicity, this
hopefully being achieved through this selected piece of Mese-en-Scene.
2.) THE FECES:
• This prop is used purposefully for a comical scene, in which the invisible
canine, naturally, does his business within the time of his walking around the
neighbourhood. To society, the embodied ‘untrained eye’, the man will seem
deranged as he kneels down to collect this dung, and put in the bin, as
nobody else is able to see the distributor of this mess. I must stress, however,
that the ‘poo’ is not real ‘poo’ but a small plastic brown piece, that came to
my possession many years ago.
3.) THE PHOTOS:
• Toward the end of the actual film, a montage scene takes place, revolving around
some of the many happy memories between the man and his best friend- this
hopefully being achieved visually through the many photos of the man and his pet.
Evidently, because the dog is ‘invisible’ I had, and continue to pose with nothing but
an empty space either next to me or on my lap. I have taken these photos with my I-
pod, of which I plan to distributor in a tangible form later on. The photos will be
seen within golden frames, this colour being appropriate as it encapsulates the love
the owner has for his now decides pet. Some of the locations that will feature within
the photos are; London, countryside, dog shows and more that I have yet to plan.
4.) TROPHIES:
As well as the may photos that will feature within the montage, I also plan to
include a collection of trophies collected from shows and competitions, helping
to illuminate the happy times that the young man and the invisible dog had
with one another. The trophies will be present in an assembled fashion ranging
from large to small ornaments, so as to reflect the idea on how the young man
has even built a shrine for his pet dog, this being a symbol that represent their
once tender relationship.
5.) THE CARDBOARD BOX
• The cardboard box is the first prop to make it’s appearance within the short
film. ‘Puppy’ will be scrawled in slopping writing on one side of the box.
Adjustments will also take place, on where the box will have a battered
weather-worn state, allowing the audience to sympathises with the actual
invisible dog left abandoned and neglected, the viewer immediately gaining
that attachment toward that animal, of which the short revolves around.
