Ideal Casting

We found out that in most basketball movies the Protagonist is often Black and

very tall , often above 6 ft. Our ideal casting would be a professional Basketball Player ,

such as Kevin Durant From the movie Thunderstruck . They are also very good looking and quite physically built or very

lean and toned . Also being a professional Basketball player he also has the skills necessary , so we will not need to get a

stunt double

Thunderstruck

In coach carter ,the main protagonist Is the Coach- Carter- who is

a older Black man , who was previously a basketball player that the college he is now

coaching at . The choice of this character

conforms to stereotypical casting in basketball movies with the protagonist being black and a player.

The main protagonist in Like Mike is LiL Bow , who is also black . But we can

see he is quite short this was purposefully done to create an underdog concept . He is also a much smaller age as in basketball movies main characters

can also be children. The secondary Protagonist is made much bigger than Bow wow and is quite built while also being black . Both actors have some

level of skill in basketball making easier to film rather than someone who has no

skill in playing.

WHAT NOW ?From our research we have found that in most basketball movies that the main character is often a young black male who can play , so knowing this when making our casting choices we will look for young black basketball players so we can conform to theses stereotypes, we would also like them to be able to play basketball some what to make it when recording as we will not need to procure a stunt double. We are going to put up poster around the school and try to get actors .

Who we are looking forIn our auditions we got some of the auditionees to show off there basketball skills – those who claimed to have them , we additionally gave them some line to read so we could see there acting prowess . We did this and told them that we would contact them if we had a place for them .We have now narrowed down the actors we are looking for to those who we think would be best suited for the role we have in mind , we have majority males with one female in mind.

We are looking into are :

ChallengesSome of challenges we faced our that a real production would have much more time to look for actors , so the could look in a wider variety of places. Additionally a real production would have wider network to look for actors such as casting studios where it would be easier for them to find the type of actor they where looking for. Lastly real production studios can be a bit more cut throat than we can be one because they have a lot of people to choose from and because everyone they have are professional actors and have learnt how to handle rejection. We on the other hand have to be more sensitive and understand that the people we are using may have never had a role in acting before and we also less people to choose from .
