There are only two streams of Bibles. The first stream, which carried the Received Text in Hebrew and Greek, precious manuscripts were preserved by such as the church in Pella in Palestine where Christians fled, when in 70 A.D. the Romans destroyed Jerusalem. The second stream, which is a very small one and it’s based on ancient manuscripts. They represent in Greek, the Vatican manuscript, or Codex B, and this one, was in the library at Rome was used to counteract the Reformation because it says different things to the one that the Reformers used. So at the time of the Reformation, Codex B became very prominent.”And then we have the Sinaitic text, or Codex Aleph, which was found in the region of Egypt, I’ll show you the place later, and it comes from an Alexandrian text. So we

have this one, and it was found in a very interesting year. It was found in 1844. So, this is the youngest of all the ancient manuscripts and it is a very old document. So when it says in your new Bibles that this translation is based on ancient manuscripts, then the idea is planted that ancient means “good”. But ancient doesn’t necessarily mean that it is good. It just means ancient.

In Latin, there’s the Vulgate, or Latin Bible of Jerome, 383 A.D. There are some problems with that [Bible] as we’ll see as well. In English, there’s the Jesuit Bible of 1582 A.D., which was written in the vulgar tongue, if you like, to counteract the Reformation Bible. [The Vulgate Bible is seen again] with vast changes, in the Douay, or Catholic Bible, which is the one the Good News Bible and many other modern Bibles are based on today.

Biography - Wescott was born in 1825. Hort was born in 1828. They were members of the Broad Church (or High Church) Party of the Church of England. They became friends during their students days at Cambridge University. They worked together. Westcott became Bishop of Durham and Hort is best remembered as Professor of Divinity at Cambridge University.Hort’s View On Evolution - “The beginning of an individual is precisely as inconceivable as the beginning of a species… It certainly startles me to find you saying that you have seen no facts which support such a view as Darwin’s. The International Bible Society (IBS) and Zondervan Publishing announced their joint decision to publish a new translation of the Bible, known as Today's New International Version (TNIV). The TNIV makes significant changes in the gender language that is in the NIV. The TNIV raises more concern in this regard than previous Bible versions because, riding on the reputation of the NIV, the TNIV may vie for a place as the church's commonly accepted Bible. We believe that any commonly accepted Bible of the church should be more faithful to the language of the original.

• The TNIV translation often changes masculine, third person, singular pronouns (he, his and him) to plural gender-neutral pronouns. For example, in Revelation 3:20, the words of Jesus have been changed from "I will come in and eat with him, and he with me" to "I will come in and eat with them, and they with me." Jesus could have used plural pronouns when He spoke these words, but He chose not to. (The original Greek pronouns are singular.) In hundreds of such changes, the TNIV obscures any possible significance the inspired singular may have, such as individual responsibility or an individual relationship with Christ.• The TNIV translation obscures many biblical references to "father," "son," "brother," and "man." For example, in Hebrews 12:7, the NIV says "Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?" But the TNIV translates Hebrews 12:7, "Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their parents?" The reference to God as Father is lost. In numerous other verses male-oriented meanings that are present in the original language are lost in the TNIV.• The TNIV translation inserts English words into the text whose meaning does not appear in the original languages. For example, in Luke 17:3, the translators changed "If your brother sins, rebuke him" to "If any brother or sister sins against you, rebuke the offender." The Lord CLEARLY and EMPHATICALLY warns against "adding and taking away" from the words of God. And yet, the GNB and other new PERversions, removes complete verses, adds and removes thousands of words with no hesitation or fear of God’s warning.
