Where is Wicker Park?■ It’s a neighborhood within the West Town Community and West Side

district of Chicago, Illinois ■ You can get to Wicker Park by taking the red line to the Chicago stop

then getting off and transferring to the blue line and getting off on Division, Damen, or Western

History of Wicker Park■ Was built in 1868 by the Chicago Board of Public Works■ It was named after the Wicker brothers who donated the 4 acres of

park land■ The first wave a development happened in 1871 after the Great

Chicago Fire■ The area became home to many wealthy Northern European

immigrants, specifically Germans and Norwegians■ The area later became home to many Polish people, giving it the

nickname the “Polish Gold Coast”

Fun Facts and Attractions

■ The Real World: Chicago and High Fidelity were filmed in Wicker Park■ The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art and The Ukrainian National

Museum are both museums in Wicker Park ■ The Green Music Fest takes place every year, where all green vendors

sell their products■ The Wicker Park Fest is another annual street festival with tons of

music and food

Reflection■ Wicker Park is not as diverse as downtown Chicago is; however, the

people in Wicker Park seem to be more friendly and more open about trying new things

■ The social scene in Wicker Park is more towards the hipster side, which makes this part of Chicago population

■ Wicker Park has a variety of different wall art, which makes it a great place to walk around in

■ Wicker Park has a few vintage and thrift shops such as the Buffalo Exchange, places like these only take in unique pieces

■ Wicker Park shaped our opinion of the Second City by letting us think that it is overall a very diverse and different place to live

■ There are different interests in different parts of Chicago and there is always going to be something for everyone to do and be a part of

Wicker Park ■ This was an authentic Chicago experience because we walked on

several blocks and those blocks are saturated by artistic atmosphere and showed us the view of old town

■ There are many neat stores which are selling books, CDs, or nice little gifts

■ What we learned is that the city of Chicago, or the old towns in the Chicago range, have so many things that we need to go explore and see

■ We were surprised by the many cool and fancy paintings on the walls and the style of the drawing is extremely stylish
