Ford will install a Corning Gorilla Glass hybrid windshield on its 2017 GT supercar.

The Gorilla Glass that you tap every day on your smartphone is all set to debut as an auto windshield. The three-piece safety glass incorporates Corning's existing Gorilla Glass - more commonly associated with mobile device screens - and will be featured in the Ford GT supercar.

It will be around 30% lighter and 25-50% thinner than a conventional glass windshield.

Developed by Ford and Corning, Gorilla Glass hybrid window will be used on both windshield and rear engine cover of Ford GT, contributing to its enhanced vehicle handling, improved fuel efficiency and reduced risk of glass damage.

The 2017 GT supercar will also use a bespoke glass combination for the bulkhead panel between the passenger cell and the engine bay which will bring additional weight savings to boost performance.
