3. Neck and back injuries

Whiplash is a common car accident injury because the neck stretches and quickly snaps back into place when a car either suddenly stops or accelerates.

The vertebrae, ligaments, disks, or spinal cord can be damaged from whiplash. This in turn can cause paralysis or loss of function in other parts of the body.

Legs are extremely susceptible to injury because the lower half of the body can get easily smashed by another car. Leg injuries range from minor bruises to multiple fractures.

6. Knee injuries

If knees are abruptly twisted or turned, the meniscus (the cartilage in the knee) can tear. This can cause extreme discomfort and an inability to walk.

7. Chest injuries

If a driver or passenger did not have a seat belt on, the impact of the collision can break ribs and possibly the sternum. However, air bags have reduced the severity of these injuries.

8. Abdominal injuries

Hip fractures and injuries to abdominal organs are very common in front-impact and side-impact auto accidents. Organs that tend to get the most damage are the liver, spleen, and kidneys.
