Clothes Anything that is

comfortable and cool

Nothing nylon or athletic gearo These will melt if

there is a fire Tee shirt, khaki

shorts, and socks generally works

Racing Gear SA 2010 Helmet Nomex Suit Nomex Shoes Nomex Gloves Neck Brace

o All of these items can be borrowed from the shop or personal gear can be used

Overview the Car Take a quick look over

the car Look at tires, caps, and

fluid levels If there is anything that

seems out of place, talk to an experienced team membero If something is wrong, it

can be fixed before drivingo If nothing is wrong, you

will learn more about the car

Strap into the Car Ask a experienced

team member to help attach the harness and sub-straps

Tighten straps till securely fastenedo You should not be

able to lift your shoulders from the seat

Reattach Steering Wheel

Pull on the quick release Line up the splines on

the steering wheel and steering shaft

Push steering wheel onto steering shaft until quick release clicks

Pull on steering wheel to check if securely attachedo Should not come off

without pulling quick release Spline

Start the Car Ask for assistance while

starting the car from an experience team member

Main kill switch should be turned to the on position

The dash kill should be un-depressed

Hold in the clutch or make sure the car is in neutral

Activate the starter switch and toggle throttle pedal to aid in ignitiono Don’t hold starter for more

than 5 seconds at a time

Turn on Fans and Water Pump

Ask a team member about what fans and pumps need to be turned ono Each car is different

Turn on all fans and pumps once the car is running

The fan and pump switches for the 2011 Formula SAE car

Ready to Drive Hold in clutch Put car into 1st gear Wait for a signal to go out

onto the track from experienced team member

Ease off the clutch and ease on the throttle simultaneously o As the engine starts to take

a load add more throttle to avoid staling the car

Start driving!
