Swim through the stormUkrainian IT in new reality for Ukraine
No crisis in Ukrainian IT
Sympathy to Ukraine (already irrelevant)
• Window of opportunity is closed
• We are not in news anymore
Hope for changes in Ukraine (irrelevant)
• Yes, world still hopes that Ukraine is on the right path now
• But• It has nothing to do with
outsourcing,
• It goes slower than expected
• Attracting R&D centers would help Ukrainian IT, but harm Outsourcing
War consolidates people (irrelevant)
• It’s not really about outsourcing business
• More to military innovation (Borsh Fundation, drones, etc)
Risk Management (still valid fact)
Partners and Customers are concerned re stability of Ukrainian suppliers
Risk Management. How to react?
• Calm down & right PR• There is a history and experience already – rely on that.• Power outages, army drafts, what else?
• Mitigate• Infrastructure in the cloud• Office “reliability”• Mitigation plan (visas, recovery plans, etc)
• Just keep delivering great results• And don’t forget to get references
• In some cases there is nothing you can do about it, but in some cases you may turn it to benefit
HR. Brain drain (new issue)• It was always there, but now
increased:• Fear of war
• Drafts to Army
• Uncertainty of future
• It has another side –refugees/relocation from occupied territories
• What can we do about it?
My summary
• Ukrainian IT is doing well yet. Its because it was healthy and was shaped right (No over-regulation & Global focus)
• There are some new challenges, but life is never easy
• Just like before, there is a need to think out of the box:• Pure outsourcing is very unsecure
• Try to have a skin in product games
• Try to have proto of R&D centers
• Try to go vertical – find your area of expertise and increase your rates there
Lets talk?
