2 St. Peters Square Manchester – Fast Track Construction The term “iconic” is often overused when describing the aesthetics of a building but is definitely applicable when used in the context of 2. St. Peters Square, Manchester. Built on the southern edge of Manchester City Centre, St. Peters Square is undergoing extensive renovations and will form a large part of the new Manchester Business Quarter. Stakeholders have developed a cohesive regeneration strategy which will ensure the preservation and continuity of its timeless yet classic ambience.
Techrete, having previously provided the cladding for 1 St. Peters Square, engaged in early exploratory discussions with the architects, Simpson Haugh and Partners LLP (formerly Ian Simpson Architects). The Manchester based architects, conveyed their vision for the project which included intricate tracery panels on a 12 storey mixed use building. Techrete responded with the tracery panels in a white C195 mix with an acid etched finish and the window panels in a C195 mix with both a mixture of polished and acid etched finishes.
Techrete are prominent in the construction industry for their attention to quality but in addition to this, 2 St. Peters Square showcased just how “fast track” precast can be. The windows were installed in the panels by the window manufacturer in Techrete’s manufacturing facility which gave an increased level of quality to the product and facilitated the beneficial quick enclosure, and water tightness of the building. The timeline illustrates how quickly this can be achieved, 8 floors closed and water tight in 8 weeks! Techrete are currently involved in other projects throughout Manchester and the United Kingdom where this method of construction will be employed. The client can benefit from the resultant economic savings and speed of completion derived from such methods, whilst confident in the quality of the product and process.
