On July 1, 2008, Nikkei Business Publications, which provides a wide range of management and technology information through specialized magazines and websites such as Nikkei Business and nikkeiBPnet, and Nikkei Home Publishing, which publishes an array of lifestyle magazines including NikkeiTrendy and Nikkei Woman, have consolidated to make a fresh start as the all-new Nikkei Business Publications.

Magazines and Newsletters
Nikkei BP’s magazines and newsletters cover a wide range of information, from business, personal
computing, computer, telecommunications, electronics, machinery, construction and healthcare /
biotechnology to lifestyle, health and entertainment.
Our business-to-business magazines are delivered on an annual subscription basis in order to ensure
delivery of all the latest and vital information direct to professionals. Our newsletters aim to introduce
information of the highest value to more narrowly targeted readers.
Our consumer titles that can be purchased at bookstores and convenience stores are for the more
general readership. Each title contains unique information that only Nikkei BP can offer, leveraging the
information, know-how and the analytical ability that we have gained through our experience with our
business-to-business magazines. Our business-to-business magazines become more solid by having
the interface of consumer magazines, while consumer magazines gain another level of strength with

One of the most distinguishing characteristics of Nikkei BP’s online properties lies in their outstanding
diversity of content, just like our magazines. In October 2007, we launched a new portal by the name of
nikkei TRENDYnet which covers trend information for the private side of businesspeople’s lives. Together
with nikkei BPnet which offers essential information for businesspeople today, these “twin portals”
encompass the whole Nikkei BP, horizontally covering our core business areas of management, technology
and lifestyle.
The twin portals and our renowned websites such as Nikkei Business Online, the indispensable resource
for savvy business leaders, ITpro covering IT / network markets and Tech-On! for engineers in the
electronics /machinery fields, are the engine in Nikkei BP’s cross media strategy. We adopt a registration
system for most of our websites, which enables us to operate them as highly targeted media just like our
print magazines. To the world of the Internet where large pageviews were given emphasis to measure the
quality of a website, we introduced a new concept of “page value” where quality of the content and the
quality of the audience mean just as much.
In addition to these key sites, we have other
specialized sites, including ones on biotechnology;
the latest technology from universities, industry-
academia collaboration; intellectual property; and
human resource development.
The richness of the information both in kind
and in the way in which it is provided is another
characteristic of Nikkei BP’s websites. From

Cite Publishing Holding Group to license its content to the
Business Weekly magazine. Additionally, Nikkei Business
and its Chinese partners organize a biennial event named
Beijing International Automotive Conference, which serves as
a platform to discuss the healthy development of the automotive
industry and market in China.
Nikkei BP Books in Foreign Languages
Requests for publication rights of Nikkei BP books in foreign languages are increasing, especially from Korea
and Taiwan. Rights for almost 130 Nikkei BP titles have been granted to overseas publishers in the five years
from 2002. Recently, the areas of interest have been
expanding from IT / Internet-related issues to finance,
economy, education and services.
Partnerships with U.S. / European Titles
Many of Nikkei BP’s specialized magazines utilize the
cutting-edge information provided by U.S. and European
magazines and newspapers. Presently, Nikkei BP partners
with numerous titles worldwide, including BusinessWeek
and Financial Times. The network of our three overseas
offices and five editorial bureaus in Asia, the U.S. and
Europe, combined with these partnerships, further adds
depth to the news and analyses that Nikkei BP offers to the

The research skill and know-how that Nikkei BP Group has
cultivated over 40 years are consolidated in Nikkei BP Consulting.
Our research methods include questionnaire surveys conducted
through postal mailing and online, interview surveys on one-to-one or
focus group bases, and CLT (central location) surveys.
Questionnaire surveys are conducted by in-house staffs who
have experience in magazine-led surveys, while interview surveys
are conducted by those with editorial experience in high-tech,
architectural, medical and business fields.
Research Monitors
Nikkei BP Consulting has a pool of more than 250,000 research
monitors. A model monitor is a 40-year-old male living in an urban
area, holding a managerial position in his company, and earning

Our Lives
Nikkei BP, among the first media companies to meet
the requirements for ISO14001 certification, is making
company-wide efforts to address environmental issues.
(In July 2008, Nikkei BP made a self-declaration
of conformity to ISO14001.) Why do we care about
environmental activities? First, as a publisher that inevitably uses large
amounts of paper, we consider it important for us to make the utmost
efforts to reduce the burden we place on the environment. Second, with
global warming becoming more and more evident, we take it as one of our
most important missions as a media company to provide information to
help solve environmental issues. We have also been participating in a joint
afforestation project in Australia since 2002 — another example of our
efforts to protect global environment.
We launched Nikkei BP EcoManagement Forum as a platform
to facilitate environmental management in the industry. It
currently has 170 corporate members and is striving to further
enhance eco-conscious management efforts of the members.
In addition, “Environmental Brand Survey” is conducted every
year to find out and analyze how environmental activities of
each company are evaluated by the market and society. The
results of the survey are released in and our
other magazines. The survey is drawing more attention every
year as an index to measure corporate value from the
perspective of environment.
We form study groups, conduct environment-related researches and host conferences to increase the
awareness of and to support eco-conscious management among Japanese industries.
Nikkei BP as a whole currently presents four awards.
“Nikkei BP Technology Award,” the first of our awards,
established in 1991, is given to technologies used to
manufacture such things as medical instruments and
electrical appliances, that benefit our lives without
our noticing. The awardees are decided based on the
impact they make on Japanese industry and society.
“Nikkei BP Advertising Award” aims to stimulate
development of advertising in business-to-business
information, including economy / management,
electronics / machinery, network, construction and
healthcare, while “Nikkei BP BizTech Book Award”
recognizes those books that contribute to the
advancement and development of technology and
management. Our fourth award “Japan Innovators
Award,” aims to revitalize the country’s economy and
acknowledges innovators who have unique ideas and
the strong will to bring them to reality.
Nikkei BP commends and awards achievements that support Japan’s industries tomorrow. Our awards are symbols of the highest achievements in business and technology.
Nikkei EcologyThere are also other awards presented by individual
magazine brands, such as “Nikkei Restaurants
Menu Grand Prix,” “Woman of the Year” and “IT

public aware of the achievements of specialists from
