A MESSAGE FROM THE ALPFA

BAY AREA CHAPTER PRESIDENTS

01 3rd Annual Bay Area Women of ALPFA Summit Performance Is Key, But It Isn’t Everything 02

Bienvenidos!

The ALPFA San Francisco and Silicon Valley boards would like to welcome you to the first joint Women

of ALPFA (WOA) event. In the last couple of years we have enjoyed two great WOA celebrations,

but this year marks the first time the two Bay Area chapters have joined efforts to put together what

should be our best WOA event yet. Thank you all for coming; we are sure you will enjoy the event.

For those of you who are new to our organization, here’s a little background. ALPFA was established

in 1972 to meet the needs of the growing ranks of Latino professionals in the areas of finance and

accounting. What began as a small group has grown nationally to 36 Chapters with close to 9,000

members. In the Bay Area we have more than 400 members and growing rapidly: +33% over the

last year! This has been the result not only of the hard work of your board members and the backing

of our corporate sponsors but also the support of our membership, a support that is clearly shown

today in the form of a full room!

Our topic for today is “Performance is Key But it Isn’t Everything: Discovering Your Unrealized As-

sets.” As you will see throughout the discussion, our panelists are a clear example of the type of

qualities and experiences that are extremely helpful in attaining success in the professional world.

High performance is a must-have but it is not the only ingredient required for a successful career.

Special thanks go to our panelists and mistress of ceremony as well as all the committee members

and volunteers who put so much effort into making the 2009 Women of ALPFA event a success. Same

goes for all the support our local corporate sponsors have given; without their commitment we would

not have these type of events. On that note, a very big and special thank you to Prudential as their

WOA sponsorship at the National and Local level has made this afternoon a reality. Let’s begin!

OUR VISIONTo inspire and develop Latina business leaders to break barriers, achieve life and career as-

pirations and celebrate their unique Latin culture.

OUR MISSIONTo develop Latina business leaders by providing Best in Class educational programs and creating

opportunities for them to demonstrate leadership, network and influence others.

ABOUT THE WOMEN OF ALPFAThe Women of ALPFA program was launched nationally in 2002 with the purpose of cre-

ating opportunities and empowerment for professional Latinas through leadership skills,

training, mentoring and career advancement.

The Women of ALPFA program has a significant role at the Annual Convention and involves

a day-long program that includes panel discussions, workshops focused on women issues,

networking receptions, a student scholarship award, a Women of ALPFA award, and partic-

ipation of renowned female leaders in business, law, government and the community.

Through its diverse approach in addressing women initiatives, the Women of ALPFA pro-

gram also creates a forum for discussion on overcoming cultural and gender-based barriers.

The interest in the program has expanded beyond the national level leading to execution

of the program at the chapter level with a vision to have a formal program developed within

each ALPFA chapter. For more information on the San Francisco or Silicon Valley Chapters,
