Affiliate Marketing Programs for BeginnersSo you are new to the affiliate marketing world. You have seen all the excitement about folks making a living from their desk or kitchen table at home or from their gaming system. Instead of Call to Duty, you are playing Call to Collecting Currency.

I know I did. I remember having an epiphany one day when I was playing Mafia Wars on Facebook.

Man, I loved Mafia Wars!

I was good at it.

I was collecting billions of Mafia Wars dollars just because I was so darn clever.

But they would not take Mafia Wars bucks down at the grocery store. Mystifying, isn't it?

Anyways, I decided that I needed to put at least as much energy into generating real dollars as I did into Mafia Wars.

What Kind of Online Business?Home Affiliate Programs

Well, I knew I wanted something I could run from home, without employees and minimal overhead. I wanted something that I could deliver digitally because information is something that has no shipping costs and no time spent packaging it.

I like the concept of network marketing, but it was not where I wanted to start. Network marketing is a relationship business and I wanted a model where folks were looking for what I had to offer and sought me out, rather than me hunting for them and going through a sales process. Don't get me wrong; sales is a perfectly honorable profession and if there were not people good at it we would still be digging a trench out back and suffering uncomfortable little mid-winter nips in sensitive areas. (I am involved in networking, but that is a tale for another telling.)

Let me be perfectly clear. I love salespeople. They bring me all kinds of neat stuff I might not otherwise know about.

Anyways, after a ton of research, it occurred to me that what I really wanted was an affiliate marketing business. Conducting marketing activities so folks who needed me could find me was my preferred business activity of choice.

This made it a matter of them telling me they wanted to buy rather than me 'selling' them on the idea that they needed it.

The reason for this is that it enabled me to engage in marketing in the online business space rather than having to engage in selling an individual.

People hate being sold and I intend to respect that.

One of the things that has been hammered into me by my mentors is Quit Selling. Start telling, and adding real value into your words and soon it becomes a game of the more you tell, the more people stick money in you pocket with a smile and a thank you.

Best Affiliate Marketing ProgramsWell, without yet getting into any one specific program the consensus seems to be that the best affiliate programs offer the following:

1. Digital, downloadable information and training products2. High commission percentages. (30% won't get it these days. The competitive programs all have

at least a good portion of their affiliate commissions in the 75% to 100% less any merchant fees.)3. Subscription products, i.e., there is a monthly charge for membership in an ongoing training or

educational resource.

Why are these three characteristics important? Well, for one thing digital, downloadable information and training products require no shipping or physical handling. This minimizes your cost and makes the sales process very fast and easy for the customer. Very little impediment to getting instant gratification on your customer's part means more sales, more repeat sales, and opportunities for larger future sales.

My direct mentor (he's built half a dozen or so six figure businesses from home saying at one point he went through an online webinar, got excited, did the Roland of Gilead thing with his credit card ...did a quick draw and pulled the trigger, so to speak... and found out there was a six week waiting period for the course to be delivered.

He cancelled the sale; I cannot say I blame him.

High commission percentages mean each sale covers more of your monthly nut to cover expenses and so you are paid out for the month with fewer sales. Would you rather make 10 $500 sales at 100% or would you rather make 100 $50 sales at a 30% commission? If you need to do the math, go right ahead and come back when you are done. I bet you will only need to do it once.

Subscription products should be that for which you always aim. Why? Because you get paid every month and over time your monthly income will become larger than your job's wages.

It will become not only stable, but will be arguably more stable than your job. It only takes one person to fire you from your job. If you have a stable of subscriptions of 100 or 200 folks on a good, effective

product that people like what are the odds of them all cancelling at once? Zero.

That is income security.

It also means you don't have to work every month for your bill paying money. Once you get your base expenses covered everything you are working on will be to generate a raise.

Would that not be a hoot? You can give yourself a raise anytime it suits you.

All you have to do is decide you want one.
