CELEBRATION OF A TYPICAL AFRICAN WEDDING

Nigeria, my homeland, of which I am very

much proud of, is a land full of beauty and intelligence. Like any other country, we have had our share of horrible pasts of war and violence with even the present fight against terrorism at its core. However, we are an optimistic set of people who believe there is always a silver ling somewhere in the clouds, all it takes is patience and perseverance.

I would like to use the collection of these Nigerian wedding pictures to talk about my fascination about a typical Nigerian Wedding. In my photos, I use modern day style of celebration which is slightly different from what use to be in the pre-colonial period.

“ASO EBI” STYLE

The term “Aso Ebi” is a general name given to clothes that have been selected to wear on the Wedding day. This selection could be amongst friends of bride and groom, the parents of the couple, association they belong, etc.

This clothing is a very typical signage in any Nigerian wedding because it shows solidarity for the couple and also acts as color perfection to the bride’s attire.

Once again, I present a collection of colorful Aso Ebi attires that added color and beauty to the wedding of the couple mostly the bride. However, the guys are not excluded in this as it popularly percieved that only ladies wear Aso Ebi.
