Moving out of the house you’ve lived in for 50 years can seem daunting. After all, some of the most important events of your life happened there, including when your husband carried you over the threshold after your wedding and the day you waved goodbye to your son as he drove off to college.

One of the easiest ways to instantly change your new room is to bring in the framed photographs from your home. Put up pictures of your children and grandchildren on the walls and on your nightstand. You could even take a picture of your old house and put it in the middle of a collage frame surrounded by photographs of your favorite memories, like a really fun Christmas morning and the day you taught your daughter to ride a bike in the front yard.

If you can no longer manage a three-bedroom house and you’re looking for an easier lifestyle, moving into an assisted living center may be the best option. Even though you’ll be saying goodbye to your home, you don’t have to leave your precious memories behind.

Sometimes you just need your own special pillow to get into a deep sleep. Who says you can’t bring yours with you? You should also bring your favorite blanket.

Whether it’s an old family quilt that’s been passed down for generations or a crocheted Afghan that your daughter in law made you for your birthday, snuggling up in your new bed will feel instantly like home with them by your side.

Just because you’re leaving your home doesn’t mean you have to get rid of everything you love about it. Before you move out, do a walk around the house and pick one special item from each room to bring with you. In the kitchen, it might be your favorite vase that you can use when your children visit with flowers. In the living room, it might be that little angel figurine that your husband gave you when your first child was born. Place them around your new room and enjoy the ambiance of home.
