Applications & Use of Label Films

Label films are polyester films and are of various types depending on their application. Label film manufacturers employ different manufacturing methods (which are responsible for the characteristic features of the label films), and in turn, influences the nature of application.

Label film manufacturers today use custom labels for countless applications: product identification, shipment addressing, bar codes, RFID applications, work-in-process, inventory control, pricing, promotional, and many other purposes.

Piggyback labels These are made from combining two layers of adhesive substrate. The bottom layer forms the backing for the top. The label can be applied to any object as normal. Often used on Express mail envelopes.

Blockout labelsWith a strong gray adhesive it used for concealing what lies underneath a surface Radioactive labels Helps in the tracking of chemical compounds.

Inkjet label It is made of a porous stock material which can readily accept ink and dye from an inkjet printer. Waterproof printable inkjet label is commonly used for soap or shower gel containers.

Laser label It is made of a nonporous stock and is designed to withstand the intense heat of laser printers and copiers. A drawback of laser labels is that the entire sheet needs to be printed before any labels are used; once labels have been removed the sheet cannot be put through the printer again without damaging the printing mechanism.

Fold-out Labels Also known as booklet, multi-page or extended labels, or lablets Fold-out labels are often preferred to separate leaflets, which can easily be lost especially when the pack is not large enough for a single label to carry all the required informationThese labels are frequently seen on agricultural chemicals and consumer pharmaceuticals.

Security LabelsUsed for anti-counterfeiting, brand protection, tamper-evident seals, anti-pilferage seals, etc. They are used for authentication, theft reduction, and protection against counterfeit. Commonly used on ID cards, credit cards, packaging, and products from CDs to electronics to clothing.

Smart labelsUsed for RFID identification as they have have RFID chips embedded under the label stockAsset Labels / TagsThey are tamper-evident, permanent or frangible and usually contain a barcode for electronic identification using readers.
