ACEC National PerspectiveACEC ACTION ALERT
Congressional Action Needed on Transportation Funding
Dear ACEC Member –
As you know, the balance of the Highway Trust Fund is rapidly depleting as federal revenues are not keeping pace with funding for highways and transit programs. Starting in late July, the U.S. Department of Transportation will be forced to delay or ration payments to states. This funding uncertainty is already causing state DOTs to cancel or postpone planned projects.
Congressional negotiations on how to address the problem are on-going. House and Senate leaders have expressed a commitment to passing a short-term patch to avoid insolvency, but time is running out. Members of Congress and Senators need to hear from you, their constituents, on how important transportation infrastructure is to the local and national economy. It is imperative that they take action soon to shore up the Highway Trust Fund in order to allow for the development of a long-term reauthorization bill with increased, sustainable funding later this year.
ACEC Members are strongly encouraged to write their representative and senators in support of a Highway Trust Fund fix. You are encouraged to personalize the letter with firm-specific information and email it to your member of Congress and two senators.
