Lately we’ve been getting a lot of calls for airconditioning. Surprised? We aren’t either. Youwant to be cool and remove that uncomfortablehumidity from your living space. It’s all aboutquality of life! So – Central Air or Mini-Split? Bothsystems dehumidify the air when cooling, and canbe purchased with air purifying options for thosewith allergies. Both types of systems requiremultiple trades for installation.

Central Air Conditioning

Central Air is a single system designed to coolyour entire home, or an entire floor. It must besized properly based on the square footage andlayout of the home. Our licensed Affiliatesinstall these systems, and know how to sizethem properly.

A Central Air system requires a condenser, an airhandler, a “return”, vents, and ductwork. WithCentral Air, no equipment (other than the vents)can be seen in any room.

Mini-Split Air ConditioningMini-Split systems are terrific in homes withrelatively open floor plans since the cool airquietly moves through the space withoutductwork. A Mini-Split air conditioning system hasseveral design options. The equipment is smalland very quiet when running as opposed towindow air conditioners.

A single system consists of a small condenseroutside and a small rectangular unit inside.These units are usually mounted to the upperportion of a wall or suspended from or recessedin the ceiling.

There is no ductwork required for the Mini Splita/c system. This feature saves money, and doesnot require as much disruption to the home.

Cost ComparisonWhat is the difference in cost? That depends onthe size of your home and number of rooms orfloors you want cooled. These days Central Airsystems can run $10,000.00 (and up), notincluding the cost of repairing opened walls andceilings. Installing a Mini-Split system starts atabout $4,000.00, depending on the number ofrooms and/or floors being served. A Mini-Splitrequires little to no wall or ceiling repair.
