Common Problems with Poor Reception
There is arguably nothing worse than sitting down on the sofa, with a nice hot cupof tea, all prepared to watch the latest episode of your favourite soap only to findthat you have a poor TV reception and your screen is filled with fuzzy pictures, or insome cases nothing at all. It’s enough to make someone scream and declare theevening ruined.
In such a situation you may find that you need to speak to someone who hasknowledge of aerial installation to give you a helping hand. However, before youreach for the telephone there are some things you should consider first.
Interference versus reception
When it comes to fuzzy pictures and poor signal there are a number of things whichcould be causing the problem. These “things” tend to fall into one of two categories, interference or poor reception. It is important that you can try to work out whichone is likely to be causing your problems, as some of them can be easily rectifieddirectly and immediately, whilst others may require the help of someone with theright experience, knowledge and tool kit.
Reception problems can be caused by a number of different factors and ultimatelycan either be resolved by the TV owner (that would be you) or the broadcaster.Occasionally, there are simply situations that are a little out of your hands, but willresolve themselves in a short period of time. Example reception problems caninclude:
Equipment or installation faults which can easily be checked and wherenecessary fixed or replaced
Objects blocking the signal (these can include trees and buildings) in whichcase moving your aerial may provide a simple and immediate solution
Weather related issues, usually storms which impact on the signal strengthfrom the broadcaster
Reception problems are the sort, as described above, that appear out of nowhere. One minute everything seems fine, and the next it’s not. If you haven’t hadproblems before, and your neighbours don’t seem to have any issues with their TV(pop your head out the door and see if you can hear them shouting at their TV’s too)then it is likely to be a reception issue.
Interference tends to be a slightly more intermittent issue and may require a bitmore of an indepth analysis of how to rectify it. You might find that your aerialneeds updating, or perhaps just relocating slightly. If this is the case then it isimportant to speak to someone who knows about aerial installation as they will bein the best position to provide you with the advice that you need to ensure that yourproblem is fixed properly.
