CONVEYORS
INTRODUCTION
• A conveyor system is a common piece of mechanical handling equipment that moves materials from one location to another. Conveyors are especially useful in applications involving the transportation of heavy or bulky materials. Conveyor systems allow quick and efficient transportation for a wide variety of materials, which make them very popular in the material handling and packaging industries.
TYPES OF CONVEYORS
There are 5 types of conveyors:-1. Belt conveyor2. Screw conveyor3. Pneumatic conveyor4. Chain conveyor5. Bucket chain conveyor
BELT CONVEYOR
Principle:-Horizontally or inclined placed motor driven rotating beds convey the material from feeding point to discharge point.
CONSTRUCTION:-
• Consists of core of several piles of cotton ducts bonded with rubber.• Belt runs horizontally or at a incline position from
free point.• Tightners mainly cast iron are incorporated to
maintain even tension on belt.• Belt is allowed to move with a belt drive which is
made up of small pulley.
• Contact is increased with introduction of small wheels.• Belt is supported with rollers called as idlers
which are generally used to depress belt at center and to give rise at edges.• A hopper placed at one end loads the feed at the
center.• A discharge bin is placed at the other end to
receive transferred material.
BELT CONVEYOR
WORKING:-
• As the pulley moves belt starts to rotate in forward direction.• Idlers help in maintaining close contact with the
pulley.• Material is collected mechanically or manually at
other end.• Belt then returns again at the point of feeding.
APPLICATIONS:-
• Transportation of containers for filling, copping, sealing.• During production of injectables, oimtments.• Transportation of lozenges.
Advantages:-• Easy for installation• Available in all sizes.• Can travel several kilometers.• Economical in terms of cost per unit ton.
Disadvantages:-• Expensive.
