If necessary, Cyprus Moments can provide witnesses for you here in Cyprus. Please note, that you may be asked to produce your original documents, especially when formally arranging the wedding date. In this eventuality, it is not a problem if your witnesses are not arriving until later. Decree Absolute This is only required if either party has been married before. This has to be the original document. Death Certificate This is only required if either party has been widowed. A copy of the previous Marriage Certificate will also be required in this instance. Affidavits Please note that separate affidavits are required for both Bride & Groom. An affidavit is a declaration of being single, from both parties' country(s) of origin. These declarations (or affidavits) can be obtained from the Registry Office / Parish Registry, the Ministry of the Interior (Home Office) or Foreign Ministry (Foreign Office) of their countries or even from their Embassies. The documents must be translated into Greek or English. Applicants who are holders of UK passports can obtain their affidavits in resort at a charge of approximately 2 CYP per person, from the Supreme Court. The translated documents must be certified & signed by the above mentioned legal officials. In order to apply for this certificate, you first need an affidavit signed and counter-signed by the Supreme Court in Cyprus, which needs to be taken together with your passport, residential permit (pink slip) and your partner’s passport. The cost of the above certificate is 20.00 CYP & can take up to 14 working days to be issued. Please contact us at [email protected] for more information on these new regulations.

Certificates of Thalassaemia

Cypriots wishing to have a civil wedding must produce Thalassaemia certificates either from a state or private doctor. For teenagers under 18 years of age, all persons who have completed their 16th year of age can be allowed to marry only with their parents’ or legal guardians’ agreement. A written consent (in the form of an affidavit stamped by a solicitor) to this effect, must therefore be presented which must be obtained from your own country, which must also be translated and signed. In the event that there are no legal guardians, then the consent of the Supreme Court of Cyprus is needed. Please note, that the written consent is made in the presence of the Mayor.

Church Ceremony Please note, that an Anglican Ceremony Baptism Certificate is required for at least one of either the Bride or the Groom You must remember to bring with you a Confirmation Form, which states that you have been attending your local church of choice. Alternatively, a Catholic Ceremony Baptism Certificate is required for both the Bride and Groom. Please remember that all original documents need to be presented at the Town Hall, when all licenses are applied for. Special requirements for all passport holders (other than holders of British passport for last 10 years)

Please note, that you are required to obtain from your Embassy or Minister of Interior, a Certificate of No Impediment, without which, your wedding will not legally take place.
