EARLY YEARS

David Ben-Gurion was born in Plonsk, Russian Empire (now in Poland), on October 16, 1886.

Age 18:

Began teaching in a Jewish school in Warsaw

Joined Poalei Zion (Workers of Zion) 1906: Went to Middle East – Palestine He called “"land of Israel"

EARLY YEARS

Once World War I began

Was deported by the Ottomans

Left the Middle East for New York City

Met and married Paula Monbesz, a fellow Zionist.

TOWARD A JEWISH STATE 1917: Went back to the Middle East and joined the war

against the Ottomans for the liberation of Palestine.

1935: Ben-Gurion was chairman of the Zionist Executive—the highest level of oversight in the world Zionism

After World War II , decided to establish a Jewish state in Palestine

May 1948: the United Nations General Assembly, the United States and the Soviet Union agreed to the creation of the state of Israel.

THE ISRAELI STATE In May 1948: Ben-Gurion became Israel's first

prime minister and defense minister

1953: briefly retired

1955: Returned to positions of power and led the Israeli government until 1963

Final years: Ben-Gurion initiated talks with regional Arab leaders toward establishing peace in the Middle East

He died in Tel Aviv–Yafo, Israel, on December 1, 1973, at the age of 87.

PERSONALITY AND LEADERSHIP He read “The Love of Zion” which raise his loyalty

to Israel. 14 years old was a leader of "Ezra" organization, in

Plonsk In Warsaw, he against Bund-Jews but not follow

Zionism-and became speaker. 1905, he joined Poalei Zion

His lover Rachel, left him and married Yehezkel because their different thought. He also had problem in marriage.

In 1947, even he was highest commander, military commanders ignore his prediction and option. Then, he had to do by himself.

In 1948, he faced to The Generals' Revolt, some leaders of Haganah force him to reinstated Galili or they will resigned.

Finally, he accepted requirement to calm situation but didn’t give any power for Galili.

EFFECTIVENESS Israel people believed that, David Ben Gurion is one of their four

immortal gods . He was the one who make the dream of thousands of Jewish life

to become reality. Abolish exile of thousand Jews around the world and bring them

to Israel. Devoted all the country, the people and the state of Israel, neo-

Zionist, diplomatic and security. As a prime minister, he helped build various institution, overall

development and growth of the nation.

EFFECTIVENESS May 14, he declared the

independence of the state of Israel, new government would “support the full equality of social and political of all its citizens, without distinction of race, religion or sex”.

1948 to 1963, Ben Gurion was not only best party leader but also a great statement. He established a well- equipped and well trained people’s army (IDF- Israel defense force).

A million Jews from 80 countries and speaking many languages came to their homeland.

Many world leading powers were obviously being influenced by him.

ACTIVITIES Educated in a Hebrew school

established by his father, an fierce Zionist.

By his mid-teens, Ben-Gurion led a Zionist youth group.

At the age of 18 he became a teacher in a Warsaw Jewish school and joined the Socialist-Zionist group "Poalei Zion" .

He admited that Jewishs have talent to do any work from business, professor, craftsman or docker”.

ACTIVITIES Tramped about through thick and

thin of Jews revolution. Preparing for armed struggle with

the Palestinian Arabs, which he saw as inevitable.

He succeeded in fusing the underground Jewish militants that had fought the British into a national army, which he used successfully to defend against Arab attacks.
