联商网独家 recently released 2011 data summarizing the presence of Walmart, Carrefour and Tesco in China.
In 2011, Walmart opened 43 new stores, Carrefour opened 29 new stores and Tesco opened 16 new stores.
While Walmart has the most stores in China with 267 total, Carrefour operates stores in inland provinces such as Xinjiang where Walmart has yet to venture. Tesco is the smallest competitor with just over 100 stores in China at the end of 2011.
The following maps illustrate the presence of each foreign hypermarket player in the Middle Kingdom.
