Crisis preparedness in the digital age

Safeguarding online reputation requires joined-up thinking

News travels fast. From data breaches to

hacks and activism, digital media fuels issues and crisis

situations, and presents organisations with more

complex reputational threats and communications

challenges.

At the same time, digital communications has

become central to how many organisations communicate

with key stakeholders including customers, media, investors

and employees.

It’s vital then that organisations plan and

prepare for crisis events to stress-test plans, processes and people - and ultimately minimise reputational risk.

FTI Fortify is a key component of

FTI’s online reputation management practice and

provides clients with a private, secure environment in which

to test realistic scenarios involving social, digital and

traditional media.

Getting match-fit: our approach to simulation exercises

Interactive

FTI Fortify social simulation exercises are hands-on, private

digital environments that enable realistic and interactive social media simulations to help clients protect their reputation online and enhance their digital

resilience

Bespoke

Through the use of innovative software and expert role-players we can recreate

bespoke scenarios specific to each client. Scenarios

range from data breaches to fuel contaminations, from

grassroots boycott campaigning to customer service issues

Relevant

As each simulation is unique we’re able to deliver value to all

participants by tailoring each session to the broadest range of skill-sets and experience levels

Cross-functional

Participants include all individuals who would be involved in formulating or implementing crisis

response online – typically this includes team members from communications, customer

services, marketing and senior management

FORTIFY SIMULATION REAL TIME CRISIS SIMULATION EXERCISE

A real-time exercise to recreate any public social media situation, from the scrutiny and pressure of a live crisis, to the unique demands associated with delivering high quality customer service.

We work at the cutting edge of digital crisis preparedness and resilience; delivering high quality training tailored to a range of experience levels, and can challenge even the strongest teams.

We are constantly evolving to ensure our training platforms accurately reflect current social media channels and our training reflects the latest industry trends and examples.

Sessions typically last a half day (but can be longer if required) and work with groups ranging in size from 2-50 participants, based in one site or in multiple locations, including globally.

Our two models

FORTIFY WORKSHOP PHASED CRISIS WORKSHOP

Our crisis workshops allow teams to sample the challenges posed by a live crisis on social media within a compressed timeframe and without the attending and intensity of a full simulation.

Workshops provide communications practitioners with a taste of the challenges and dilemmas that social media can present.

Participating teams are taken through a crisis scenario step-by-step. At each stage, participants review and compare

their responses on-screen with other teams; receiving instant reaction and feedback.

With an emphasis on training and learning, workshops represent an ideal starting point for individuals with less experience in social media, for larger mixed-function teams (20-50 participants), or groups from multiple organisations.

Sessions typically last between 90 minutes and 2 hours.

Fortify: SimulationWorking with clients we develop a bespoke and authentic crisis simulations that will:

Deliver total privacy by enabling all aspects of the exercise to be conducted on a secure digital platform

Enable in-depth feedback and analysis together with recommendations for optimising your social media crisis policies and processes

FTI works with clients to develop realistic and relevant crisis scenarios. We then build your bespoke crisis simulation platform and content – including re-creating your presence on social media channels, your website and email network.

Fortify: WorkshopFTI also offers a scaled-back version of the simulation exercise, ideal for use at seminars and in workshops

Participants are separated into teams and then briefed on a crisis scenario breaking on social media

FTI set the scene by talking through a specific crisis scenario relevant for your business

Our platform allows teams to ‘compete’ in responding to a series of difficult social media situations and discuss their learnings in a facilitated workshop

The workshop enables participants to be stress-tested and trained in managing crises during scenarios which are designed to simulate what your organisation may face during a social media crisis
