GREENTOWN WORKSHOPTHE EXPERIENCE AND GENERAL CONCLUSIONS.

Page 2: GET-Spain

Our proposal for a green town was the following:Quiet life.Personal relationship and well-

being of citizens must be given priority.

Minimum presence of technology.Food and energy self sufficiency.Nature is inside the city.

Page 3: GET-Spain

Our model: Principles

Community buildings (public facilities) are in the center.

Low density residential areas surrounding the center.

City like a garden.

Vegetation in the buildings; also food production.

Wind farm for energy production.

THE KEY PRINCIPLE IS TO REPRODUCE TO

ESCALE The condition that

determines much of the later work is that

the territory and the city are on the same scale. The chosen scale is 1: 2000, so that 1 inch of the model is 20 meters from the reality

PREPARATION OF THE MODEL

TERRITORY

It was decided that the relief should resemble that of Cuenca and its surroundings

Page 6: GET-Spain

Size of the model: 2 x 1 m

Terrotory consists of a narrow valley -source of a river that winds later on its plain- bounded on one side by an elongated ridge.

Page 7: GET-Spain

The relief was built with styrofoam plates 5 cm thick. Finally it was painted by dry brush technique. This work was made by the artistic and visual education teacher.

Page 14: GET-Spain

No cars can circulate inside the city center

Page 15: GET-Spain

Town grows in an organic way.

No polluting industrial area integrated in town.

Conclusions Scale model

construction is an interesting way to working together, as it promotes social skills.

Technical approach is suggested to learn planning strategies

Personal relationship and well-being of citizens must be given priority.

Page 17: GET-Spain

Conclusions

• Organic approach is suggested to explain values about relationship between town and environment, health and social well-being.

• Both ways are complementary because education is the force behind change the reality …

• And reality knowledge is the starting point.
