Relationships

9

Create

• Establishment, or very

early stages

• Often from a secondary

or tertiary circle

• Learn more about one

another and what each

other values

• Early stages of trust

• High-level exchanges

10

Sustain

• Deeper investment level;

trust and likeability grow

over time

• Provide genuine value to

one another, balanced

exchanges

• Not all relationships get

the same level of

investment

• Consistent

communication

11

Leverage

• Strong sustainability has

taken place, high degree

of trust

• Relationship is

capitalized on by one or

both

• Examples: key

introduction, referral or

recommendation, access

to a new opportunity

• An ‘ask’ takes place, or

an offer is made

12

Adopt the Mindset

• Relationship building is part of your purpose, personally and professionally

• Continual habit and practice, over time

• Redefine your mental model of yourself

• People need your insights and what you bring to the world

• Work with what’s natural to you, but don’t forget to challenge yourself

Build Them Before You Need Them

• When you need the relationship it’s (usually) too late

• Creating this habit ties directly to your mindset

• Leverage current relationships to build new ones

• Consistency (Create + Sustain)²

• Giving first, being of service, builds your credibility

• Be a connector

• Be a problem finder, not just a problem solver*

Commit To Raising Your Profile

• Attend a high-profile event that puts you in contact with thought leaders – get in a new room!

• Create your public platform through writing, speaking

• Board service

15

Elevate Your Social

• Social leadership is a next gen skill that companies need today!

• People need your insights, you DO have expertise

• Examine your social media platforms (example: LinkedIn, Twitter)

• Take social connections offline

• Connect with influencers and thought leaders

• Consistent, consistent, consistent

16

Practice the Art of the “Ask”

• This is the leverage piece of the formula

• Our willingness to ask for what we need to achieve our purpose is how we become more impactful

• When you believe and are known as someone who creates value, asking is easier

• “Would you be willing to…?”

• “How can I return or pay it forward?...”
