Consistency. Behind the ice cream flavors, service experience, and prospects of empowering the un- and under-employed to become successful entrepreneurs, consistency underpins success for start-up Pride & Joy (P&J).

“We have to deliver a consistent experience to both sets of our customers; the people who will eat our ice cream, and the people who will sell it,” explains Joanne Tunna, P&J’s Global Penguin.

Pride & Joy blends the franchise model with social entrepreneurship. It’s designed as a stepping-stone for ‘remarkable individuals who want their own gig, to get ahead, and to make a difference.’

For a small investment, these ‘Podsters’ buy their own ice cream business, or Pod, which comes with everything they need: equipment, high-quality product, and an iPad loaded with a POS system, accounting software, and Showcase.

Keep manuals fresh, like ingredients

“To maintain consistency and ensure we support our Podsters, we had to develop, distribute and maintain a comprehensive and easily accessible operations manual,” Joanne continues.

“Showcase was the natural choice.”

Quick informative videos are blended with real-time updates for a solution that keeps its cool - even when offline.

“It would be bizarre to distribute hard copies of the operations manual. Particularly for a start-up. It would be obsolete as soon as it got into their hands.”

Joanne was the lucky winner of P&J’s operations-manual-writing-lottery; “I immediately thought ‘What a headache,’ and quickly realized that anything printed would become obsolete faster than, well, spilled ice cream melting in summer. Because the operations manuals will certainly evolve as P&J refines its systems, Showcase’s ability to push real-time updates made a whole lot of sense.”

Always mobile. Regardless of connectivity.

Since Podsters tend to be young and tech-savvy, “The ability to share video was huge,” Joanne elaborates. “Our Pods are mobile and take some setting up. It’s fantastic to be able to share a short video about, for example, taking it off of a tow bar safely, or bringing its wheels down. A 15-30 second video can accomplish what might take several comparatively expensive technical drawings. And we knew that we couldn’t depend on our Podsters having connectivity to the Internet all the time, so Showcase’s ability to download and perform offline was essential.”

As P&J expands beyond the New Zealand market, it will take Showcase along for the ride. Consistently.
