Western Rebellion• Based in cornwall• Whitsunday 10th June 1549• Humphrey Arundell • Triggers included resentment of the actions of William Body who
had been commissioned to investigate the chantries and push through religious change. The last straw was the introduction of a new prayer book.
• A list of Articles was produced• Bodmin• Local gentry made unsuccessful attempts to calm the rebels.• Somerset sent a small army to confront the rebels. Somerset was
dealing with rebellions in the East Midlands, a war in Scotland as well as a second war on the horizon with France therefore troops and time was limited. Finally on the 16th August 1549 Russel defeated the rebel forces.
• Some negotiation on the part of local gentry but not the government.
