Step-by-StepKeyword Research
withGoogle Keyword Tool
By Stanley Tan
Step 1: Find your main keyword that your website is about.e.g: Flower, Website Design, SEO Services. You can also go deeper like Roses for sale or SEO services in New York.
Step 2: Select [Exact] on the left-hand side. What this does is it calculate the exact no.of searches for the keyword.
Step 3: If you are serving only local visitors which you can only sell to.e.g: Flower shops in New York
Step 4: Filter out your keywords by Monthly Searches >= 600. We only want Google to show keywords with at least 600 monthly searches.
Now it’s time to dig deeper into finding a targeted keyword with targeted audience
Step 5: Search for a more targeted keyword for your website. In this example, I selected exotic flowers.
Step 6: Click the keyword that you want to target and click “Show more like this”
BEWARE!There will be a competition box on the right with “High”, “Medium” and “Low”. Ignore those. You won’t need them as a SEO. Those boxes are only relevant if you are using Google Adwords PPC
Step 7: Type in your “filter” keyword into the Include terms box on the top left side. My filter keyword in this example is “exotic”
Now, we got a whole bunch of targeted keywords to choose from.
Step 8: Pick your targeted keywords. Don’t ignore the smaller search terms with 12, 40, 58 searches, etc. If you just add 20 of those 40 searches up, they will already total up to 800 monthly searches. Those small ones will be also much more easier to rank.
Step 9: Rinse & Repeat for every page of your website. Time to get flooded with targeted keywords.e.g:Page A is about exotic flowersPage B is about wedding flowersPage C is about birthday flowersPage D is about Valentine flowersPage E is about RosesPage F is about Orchids
