Q1/ What are the company's goals and culture?

Culture

Carl Schmidt and Steven McFadden founded dirt bikes

USA. They noticed that dirt bike was becoming popular

in the United States. They were founded on a friendly,

family type atmosphere, attention to detail and

quality, and continual learning and innovation. With

these values Dirt bikes has excelled to one of the top

companies, competing with the likes of Honda,

Yamaha, and Kawasaki.

Goals

Dirt bikes goals are very ambitious, and if fulfilled will

bring them to the top of the list. They want to improve

on their services, and products, and innovate cutting

edge technology, that will hopefully propel them to the

top. They want to increase sales in both the domestic

and international market.

Q2/ What products and services does Dirt Bikes U.S.A

provide? How many types of products and services are

available to customers? How doesDirt Bikes sell its

products?

The Dirt Bikes Company could possibly benefit from e-

commerce. By selling motorcycles and parts over the internet,

one would eliminate any commission paid to the dealer

network increasing in profit margin. However, Some

drawbacks with setting a company up for e-commerce exist

like the existing dealer network, where the company may have

a good solid base of customer recognition and good will in

place. Starting up sales over the internet would be almost like

rebuilding this from scratch. Also If the company were to sell

motorcycles, shipping them to individuals homes would be

difficult and it would not be economically benificial. But a

website helps in faster interaction with customer allowing the

customer to give a exact specification as to the design of

his\her bikes, thus aiding in customer satisfaction. It is also

possible to use the website for selling spare parts and other

merchandises.

The website could contain information on all the models of

motorcycles that are available for sale, links to the parts

suppliers so that customers could see the quality

the company put into building the bikes. It could also include

a “Wall of Fame” where the company could publicize any

races that have been won by it's equipment. Also setting up a

forum area on the website where customers could join for free

and talk back and forth concerning the motorcycles, racing

events, etc. The website could also help the company roll out

sales of small accessories. Things like t-shirts, sweatshirts,

and coffee mugs, etc. The website could also host a section in

partnership with the dealers where the customer could go and

set up online appointments for things like service calls and

maintenance for their Dirt Bikes

Q3/ How many employees are managers, production

workrts, or knowledge or information workers? Are

there levels of management?

Dirt Bikes USA is still privately owned with Carl serving

as CEO and Steven as President and Chief Operating

Officer. About 120 employees work in design,

engineering and production, including 3 full-time

product designers and 3 engineers. In addition to a 4-

person Parts department, Dirt Bikes maintains a ten-

person service department to service warranties and

customer problems with parts and motorcycle

performance. Five employees work in Dirt Bikes’

shipping and receiving department. Dirt Bikes’ sales

staff consists of a marketing manager and 5 sales

representatives, two for the West coast and Western

United States, one for the Midwest, one for the

Northeast and one for the South. The corporate

administrative staff consists of a controller, one

accountant, one administrative assistant, two human

resources staff members, three secretaries, and two

information systems specialists to support systems

servicing all of the business functional areas.

Q4/ Whatkinds of information system and technologies

would be the most important for a company such as

Dirt Bikes?

E-Commerce

Able to communicate directly with customer, this will

allow customers to know what the MSRP of products,

the price of options, and special sales or discounts that

is going on. Dirt bikes should only sale parts, and

paraphernalia. Should only advertise, and offer

information about dirt bikes. Because of the difficulty it

would be to ship a whole dirt bike. Also to eliminate

the mistake of any regretful orders a customer might

have by not being able to actually see a dirt bike and

talk to a sales man.

Web Site

A web site broadens awareness. Since the web site is in

different languages and currency, it can be viewed by

anyone with internet access all over the world. A web

site also makes Dirt bikes easily accessible, anybody

with internet access can look us up It will also educates

consumer. Consumers can become more aware about

our products, and our company. Some of the features

that the web site should have are: show local vendors,

and offer price quotes.
