Management Information System (MIS)

MIS stands for management information systemwhich provides high level managers with differentkinds of information and support for the process ofdecision making. Every management informationsystem is an integrated collection of subsystemswhich are typically organized horizontally within anorganization.

MIS reports

MIS reports generally helps the managers and high levelmanagement system by providing adequate and mandatoryinformation and helps them in taking the required decisionsfor the benefit of the organization.

MIS reports check the performance of the firm by comparing the data from past and present and also forecast the relevant demands in the future for the organization. It helps in finding out the variances of the output of the firm’s performance from present and forecasted data.

Types of MIS reports1. Scheduled report : Produced periodically, or on a schedule

(daily, weekly, monthly)

This type of report is produced periodically or on scheduled basis, these report provide activity of sales and others attributes on daily, weekly or monthly basis.

2. Key Indicator report : • Summarizes the previous day’s critical activities• Typically available at the beginning of each day

This report helps the manager in comparing the actual sales and the forecasted sales by the firm for a particular period like for week, month or year.

3. Ad- hoc (Demand) report : Gives certain information at a manager’s request.

This report usually helps the manager or the high level management system in finding out the demand for any particular product or commodity in the present time.

4. Exception report : Automatically produced when a situation is unusual or requires management action.

This report helps in getting an idea about the sales activity of any particular product during a particular month or time.

5. Drill down report : Provide detailed data about a situation.

This report compares the actual and forecasted sales record of the products and helps in finding the variance in them during the fixed period of time during a year.
