£11,193 - £14,523 (pro rata for part time (Subject to Job Evaluation)
Working within our busy finance team your main role will be to check and input data received from various service settings across the Borough. This information is used when issuing bills to service users who receive different sorts of non-residential services, therefore accuracy and the attention to detail is essential. You will have regular contact with service users and their families so good communication skills and a commitment to the highest level of customer service are also essential.
To succeed in this post you will be educated to GCSE or equivalent or be able to demonstrate competent though experience. You will also be IT literate and have previous experience of working as part of a team and of dealing with members of the public.
This post is temporary to the end of March 2008.
Whilst this post is available on a full time basis applications will be considered from individuals wanting to work on a part time basis for no less than 25 hours per week, over 5 days.

GRADE OF POST : Scale 1 / 2 (Subject to Job Evaluation)
RESPONSIBLE TO : Team Supervisor
JOB PURPOSE:
Assisting the financial administration and financial management of thePersonal Services Directorate with particular emphasis on Social Services.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:
1. Undertaking administrative responsibilities associated with charges and collection of income for non-residential services.
2. Monitoring income collection, identifying debt, and supporting the administrative process around debt recovery.
3. Liaising with and providing advice and guidance to relevant staff involved in the provision of non-residential services.
4. Maintaining computerised systems associated with charging, income collection and statistical information.
5. Contributing to the review and development of procedures associated with the post.
6. Undertaking general clerical duties which may include note-taking, photocopying, mail duties and cash-handling.
7. Undertaking other duties as necessary to assist in the effective running of the Finance Unit.

8. Undertaking where necessary and appropriate, duties normally performed by Administrative Assistants.
9. Participating in any training and development activities in order to maintain own professional development or to enhance competence within job role.
10.Undertaking any duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade of the post and participate in the regular review of the content of the job description.

Job Evaluation
Job Evaluation is the process of assessing the relative value or size of jobs within an organisation. Jobs (not the postholder) are analysed against common criteria to measure the content and context of the jobs people do.
Pension Scheme
All staff are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme, which is currently a final salary scheme. It is a contributory scheme, and the employee contribution is 6% of salary.
Annual Leave
The leave entitlement for a full year commencing on 1st April will be 24 days. For officers with five years continuous Local Government Service, annual leave is 29 days. In addition there are 8 statutory days. Leave entitlements will be pro-rata for part-time employees.

Conditions of Service
Temporary Clerical Assistant
Working Hours
The working week is 37 hours which will normally be worked in line with the council’s Flexible Working Hours Scheme. However, there may a requirement to work in excess of these hours according to the needs of the service.
Whilst this post is available on a full time basis individuals wanting to work on a part time basis for no less than 25 hours per week, over 5 days.
Location
The normal place of work will be Sunnyside Offices, Sunnyside, Bridgend. However, you may be required to work anywhere within the County Borough.
Medical Clearance
Any offer of appointment is subject to medical clearance. You will be required to complete a medical questionnaire, but may also require medical examination before appointment.
References
Appointment is subject to receipt of a minimum of two satisfactory references. Wherever possible these should be from previous employers.
Probationary Period
New staff to Bridgend County Borough Council appointed to this post will be subject to a 6 month probationary period.
Business Travel
Should you use your own vehicle for official journeys, mileage expenses will be reimbursed based on the locally agreed rate which is currently 41.1p per mile.
