Median personal income $1,400pw (more than double WA median)

Owner-occupied dwellings: 26.6% (WA: 67.4%)

Rented dwellings: 67.6% (WA: 29.2%)

Median population age: 31 (WA: 36)

Mining/Port Operations account for 80% of the Town’s economy

Council Growth:

Building approvals – $143 million in the past 6 months, since January this year

Compared to ... ($10 million in 2005)

Staff – 100 in 2005 compared to 200+ 2014 (doubled in a decade)

Budget – $123 million compared to $30 million in 2005

Rateable income – $23.7 million

Rateable Properties – 6,981 ... (5,200 in 2005)

Airport Passenger Numbers – 450,000 p.a. ... (110,000 in 2005).

The waterfront will be a place which is vibrant, day and night, and allows formal and informal experiences with public, community, commercial/office and retail uses, as well as short stay facilities.

Project status update 2: Kingsford Smith Business Park

• The Kingsford Smith Business Park is the latest light industrial, bulky goods, showroom and commercial land release within Port Hedland.

• It will provide a range of lot types and sizes and thereby encourage a diverse mix of light and service industrial, warehousing and bulky goods commercial business opportunities.

• New Energy Proposal Waste to Energy Plant – Investment Opportunity

• Solar Farm Proposal • 20 hectares • Council is negotiating the development of the first 3.5 hectares to facilitate the provision of power to the Port Hedland International Airport. • Project status: pending grant funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency ($14M) for a hybrid battery .
