King Saul and the Law of the Lid

1Now there was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power.       2And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly; and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he. From his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.   (I Samuel 9:1-2)

When the people of Israel asked for a king, God gave them Saul and everyone expected him to be a great leader. The people looked for outward appearance , but there were major problems in his life and leadership.

It wasn’t long before Saul , a man of power and huge potential , discredited himself and his leadership . God removed him from his place of leadership and replaced him with David.

Observe some similarities in their lives:1. Both received counsel from godly men.

2. Both faced great challenges.

3. Both had the choice to change and grow.

2. Disobedience – he refused to wait for Samuel and presumed upon God by taking matters into his own hands when he offered the sacrifice that was to be presented only by a priest.

Internal lids in Saul

6. Jealousy – he became enraged when the people compared him to David . From that point onward he kept jealous eye on the man he considered his rival.
