– Book-DVD: Wind Power, published by Heinle-National Geographic– Atlas– An DVD reproducer and a screen for showing the entire class the DVD and

other resources

ESTIMATED TIME NEEDED

One 50 minute class period

ACTIVITY

1. The story is set in Spirit Lake, USA. With the help of an Atlas locate Spirit Lake in the map of the United States.

2. Read page 2 of the book and match the word or phrase with the correct definition

3. Watch the first part of the video. Then, discuss:

– Why is Spirit Lake a suitable area for wind energy?– Explain the main features of the wind-power programme developed in Spirit

Lake school district– The school district saves 140,000 $ a year with this programme. What is this

money used for?

4. Explain how the wind-turbines work, using a poster/display5. Play the second part of the video. Then, discuss.
