SCA Tissue Creates Retrofit Washroom Solution For Las Vegas AirportWhen McCarran International Airport
wanted a touchless hand towel dispenserthat could cut costs, increase hygiene andfit into the existing recessed panels in itsbusy washrooms, SCA Tissue developed acustomized solution with applications farbeyond Las Vegas.
SCA Tissue’s Tork® Intuition™ II andits retrofit panel option will be showcasedat SCA Tissue’s BSCAI booth No. 1011in Nashville, TN, on March 24-28.
McCarran International Airport, thesixth busiest in the nation with more than41 million passengers last year, is nearlyfinished installing about 1,000 touch-freeTork Intuition II dispensers in its 150 pub-lic and private restrooms. The installationincludes 300 dispensers being retrofittedinto recessed panels in addition to thosebeing mounted on flat walls.
"We always have had a goal of movingto a totally hands-free washroom environ-ment," said Bob Hurd, custodial superin-tendent at McCarran InternationalAirport. "We needed a touch-free dis-penser to replace the crank-style dis-pensers, and it had to fit into the existingrecessed panels."
SCA Tissue designed a solution specifi-cally for McCarran’s needs — a heavygauge stainless steel filler panel thatallows the Tork Intuition II to be retrofit-ted into existing Bobrick recessed dis-penser cabinets (Bobrick models B-3944,B-3961 and B-43944) for ADA compli-ance, without having to remove the entirestainless steel unit.
"That means the hygiene and cost-sav-ing advantages of SCA Tissue’s touch-free dispensing system can be easily
applied to many restroom situations,” saidLeo Tieman, SCA Tissue senior productmanager — washroom.
Restroom hygiene and reduction ofcross-contamination are major issues atMcCarran International Airport, whichexperiences more than 237,000 uses perday of its public restrooms by visitorsfrom all over the world, Hurd said. Usagecontrol and cost savings also are critical toHurd, who oversees the maintenance ofrestrooms that accommodate up to 1,500people every eight hours.
The Tork Intuition II answers both thehygiene and usage concerns. A patentedmicrochip sensor automatically detectsthe presence of a hand and delivers onetowel at a time, ensuring that patronstouch only the towel they will use. Thedispenser’s distinctive sleek design keepstowels completely enclosed until needed, conforming to HACCP guidelines.
The dispenser also features anadjustable towel length of 8 to 47 inches,an adjustable time delay of 1 to 5 seconds, and a stub roll compartment that enablescomplete use of rolls. The result is moreprecise control of consumption and sub-stantial reductions in supply waste andlabor for refills.
"The Tork Intuition II can be installed ina wide range of options, including mount-ing directly to a wall, installing within arecessed wall opening, or retrofitting intoa stainless steel recessed towel cabinet,"said Tieman. "This versatility makes itideal for use in office buildings, health-care facilities and foodservice environ-ments.
"The Tork Intuition II is compatible with
a full range of towels, from natural to ournewly launched TorkPlus cloth-like towel, which incorporatesincreased softness, bulk and absorben-cy," Tieman added.
Both the touchlessTork Intuition II andthe mechanical TorkMatic II use the sametowels. That means amix of mechanicaland electronic touch-free dispensers req-uires stocking onlyone paper SKU, sav-ing storage space.
The SCA Tissuebooth at BSCAI willfeature its total Torkwashroom solutionline of products. Inaddition to TorkIntuition II and TorkMatic II, SCA’s totalTork washroom solution includes a com-plete and versatile line of towels, bath tis-sues and hand soap.
The Tork Xpress Portable towel dis-penser, for instance, provides countertoptowel dispensing in a versatile dispenser. The Xpress Portable uses Tork’s uniquefolded towel system that ensures the pres-entation of only one towel at a time, min-imizing the risk of cross-contaminationand reducing waste and refilling expenses.
Tork bath tissues and hand soap roundout the washroom products line with qual-
ity Tork solutions for every situation andbudget.
