Maritime skills development in Africa
IPSEA – EU Funded Initiative
• IPSEA - Improvement of Port Safety, Security and Port Efficiency
• Western and Central African region
• Support government, maritime administrations, port authorities and private port operators
• Joint Africa-EU Partnership
• Partnership works towards improving in particular:
o port safety & security – IMO convention adoption & implementation
o protection of the marine environment
o Port efficiency, by simplifying/improving the regulatory framework to reducing administrative delays and traffic bottlenecks.
IPSEA Programme execution
• Initial Assessmento EU assessment team visited 33 ports.
• Pre-training assessmento Through direct policy advice to maritime
administrations, port authorities, urban planners and port private sector
• Capacity buildingo 8 weeks allocated to each countryo Safety, security and port efficiency training
provided
