  • 5. APAC Meeting Environment -Traditionally Meetings are more face to face than in other regions Events range from small advisory board meetings (both regionally and locally) to large stand alone symposia Advisory Board meetings popular, are usually regional with 15-25 KOLs Regularly sponsor satellite meetings at large international congresses Technology at these meeting is standard with presentations all done via PPT slides sometimes with the use of keypads for voting 5 star hotels and resorts used to be the standard venue International Congress and Convention Association . • 6. APAC Meeting Environment - Currently Event formats have not changed much except there is greater importance on the science rather than the sell Koreas strict pharma code restricts Korean KOL involvement in regional meetings unless the Korean is a speaker or chair Technology is growing in importance as clients request virtual meetings (especially Advisory Boards) Acceptable venues have moved from 5 star to 4 star almost overnight Convention Centres used for large congresses or stand alone meetings CME/CPD is very different in Asia than the US and even Australia less rules and less accreditation International Congress and Convention Association . • 7. APAC Meeting Environment - Future Technology will take a much greater role due to cost and convenience Technology critical for Koreans to participate in regional discussions especially when Korea is a key Asian market Funding management moving from Marketing to Procurement thus margins are squeezed - affordability is the key...technology must play a role here Pharma code compliance will continue to strengthen especially on the back of the GSK China issues Congress spend from Pharma will continue to diminish CME/CPD will take on a greater role, will be accredited and will require much more science AND will move towards the grant process which exists in the US International Congress and Convention Association . • 8. Sunshine Act To date there appears to be little knowledge in Asia or Australia of how Sunshine will affect international meetings in our region Pfizer US has already confirmed a requirement to record all value provided to US Drs who attend Asian meetings The major impact will be for US speakers who come to Asia/Australia and for satellite symposia where US Drs are in attendance Now that Europe is also introducing their own version of Sunshine how long will it be before ROW is also talking and implementing this? Who will pay the extra costs - organisational and reporting? Will it impact registration fees and are non US Pharma ready for the cost burden of compliance and reporting? Asian and Australian Pharma affiliates are completely unaware and unprepared International Congress and Convention Association . Twitter: #ICCA13
