for Every Need \ y The new Cenco-Cooley Muffle Furnace (Model CM 2), of new and improved design, is excellent for ashing, igniting, drying precipitates, fusions, heat-treating and other laboratory uses requiring a temperature of not over 1000° C (1850° F) intermittently, or 950° C ( 1 7 5 0 ° F) continuously. The percentage-input con- troller permits setting and maintaining temperatures as low as 400° F without the use of conventional rheostats. The new design incorporates ample insulation, a heavy, sheet-metal shell fastened to cast-iron end frames, and heating elements in the form of ceramic slabs in which the resistors are embedded. This type of con- struction protects the resistors from contact with the furnace atmosphere and rapidly conducts the heat to the furnace chamber. The heating unit terminals are large, cool in operation, and permit element changes with a minimum of trouble. Four units located at the top, bottom, and two sides heat the chamber, with greater output near the door for uniformity. The percentage-input controller is a synchronous motor driving a power switch with predetermined "on" and "off 1 * periods over a one minute cycle. The operating temperature in the range from 400° to 1850° F may be obtained by turning the control knob. This elimi- nates the bulky rheostat with its attendant heating and power loss. A pilot light remains lighted while the elements are energized. s,w# SCIENTIFIC i No. 13633B Cenco-Cooley, Model CM 2, Muffle Furnace is provided for operation on either 115 or 230 volt, 5 0 or 60 cycle current.
