Needs Assessment

A needs assessment is a process that describes adiscrepancy between the actual state of skills,knowledge or behavior and a desired state. Aneeds assessment describes the performance gapand in doing so determines the appropriate responseto improve performance.

A needs assessment describes where we are, wherewe want to be, and how to get there.

Business: Operational or strategic goals for the group,department or organization, expressed in clear,measurable terms.

Performance: On-the-job behavioral requirements ofpeople required for success, required to business goals.Describes what people need to do.

Learning & work environment: Skills, knowledge orattitudes and systems or processes that need to bedeveloped to enable successful performance.
