Because the law requires ISPs to treat all traffic equally, they can’t censor content by slowing or blocking access to controversial sites that government or big business may not want you to see. While the Internet can be an ugly place at times, most people would agree that they’d rather be the arbiter of what they get to see than let a big company make the call.

Net neutrality provides small businesses and start-ups with a level playing field to compete against established, well-heeled firms. Innovation and progress require competition, and net neutrality prevents stagnation in the online world of business.
If ISPs can establish fast and slow lanes for Internet traffic, many businesses and individuals will have to pay more to get the access they need. Net neutrality means more reasonable prices for Internet access.

They’ll also be able to block content and other services from competitors.
