3 December 2014, Wednesday I 9.10am – 10.30amOpening Keynote: Where do We Go Next to Find New Hydrocarbon Reserves? The energy landscape is changing radically. The “Easy to get to oil” is gone, leaving oil companies the need to drill deeper and deeper to find other deposits. The process of extracting oil from reservoirs is becoming more difficult, resulting in higher cost, which puts at risk the businesses of the operators and contractors. Finding new potential reserves presents problems that require new technologies to produce barrels of oil and gas economically, and producing from deep water.

Måns Lidgren, CEO of Rex International Holding will share his perspective on how the company is using technology to find hydrocarbons in an economical and effective way, the challenges of gaining acceptance of the technology, and the overall success of the technology. He will also address the challenge of how to reduce the costs of the entire oil and gas E&P industry by new innovative technical approaches.

Stakeholders Panel: Meeting the Future of Offshore Developments – Are Current Rigs and Vessels Adequately Equipped and Designed to Meet this Demand? The demand for oil and gas is expected to continue increasing in the future and this will result in a corresponding increase in production, especially from the offshore regions. There has been a market shift towards increased offshore exploration especially in deepwater and ultra-deep water regions – where development drilling is expected to drive demand till 2020.

The offshore industry is relying more heavily than ever before on the growing global fleet of subsea vessels. Oil and gas operators are now pushing the boundaries of what is possible using the latest subsea for large-scale development projects. Rig owners around the world are commissioning more deepwater vessels to be built, with contracts for drillships or semi submersibles.

Key stakeholders have been invited to address key topics (not limited to) such as:• Market outlook of global drilling rig and current construction trends in Asia• What are the upcoming mid to deepwater water projects and developments• Meeting the objectives of decreasing drilling years to days and operational cost• Drilling rig that is suitable for the different water depth – Drilling for the future• Are current vessels adequately equipped and designed to meet this demand? • Are the current subsea vessels equipped to cope with complex exploration and production projects in deeper waters? • What are the technology gaps that are preventing vessel owners from achieving these objectives?• What are oil and gas companies looking for in an OSV owner?

Individual presentation will be shared followed by a panel discussion.

1.40pm Automating the Mud Engineer: Increasing Optimisation with Real-Time Drilling Fluid Properties• Discuss lessons learned from field trials with automated drilling fluid measurement equipment• Understanding how automated measurement of drilling fluid properties can enhance drilling fluid and overall drilling performance• Understanding how automated measurement of drilling fluid properties provides real time information for drilling services, such as managed pressure drilling• Find out how real time information can provide improved insight into developing drilling fluid property trends

Shawn Broussard, Project Advisor, Halliburton

2.10pm Case Study: Petrophysics for Horizontal Wells with a Sourceless LWD Technology• In horizontal holes, several factors are affecting formation resistivity. Bed boundary and polarization horns are causing severe noise that masks the true formation resistivity causing great ambiguity in water saturation determination. Moreover, the use of LWD with natural radioactive sources has been always a big concern to KOC – How was this being addressed?• Case study done with KOC : An alternative option to resistivity was proposed to KOC based on using Sigma. Sourceless LWD was used for the first time in Kuwait with great success. The Sigma was used in the water saturation calculations. In addition, a time lapse Sigma was used to indicate any water movement by OBM invasion

• Understanding the used of spectroscopy for formation evaluation specially clay content. This is rather useful in complex lithology especially when the Gamma Ray reading is affected by strange mineralogy, thus affecting mobility calculations for accurate ICD design

Ahmed Elsherif, LWD Petrophysics Domain Champion, Schlumberger Technical Services

2.40pm High Performance Water Based Mud: Case Study• Identifying how inhibition of shale can be achieved by different mechanism - Each method has its own limitation. For example; PHPA is good in encapsulation, silicate is good in well bore stability• Understanding how High Performance Water Based Mud can reduce drilling problem whilst delivering high level of performance and minimising potential environmental impact compared to OBM/SBM• The mud system presented in the paper is highly inhibitive, with good low end rheology and shear thinning for higher penetration• Case studies of the drilling fluid system shows save in time and money due to faster drilling and lower chemical consumption

Dr Shrikant Kumar Mahapatra, Regional Technical Manager, Drilling Fluid Division, Petrochem Performance Chemicals

Workshop A: Best Practices in High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) Drilling & Well Design

Conventional HPHT conditions are becoming routine drilling targets in many basins worldwide, as exploration and production examine deeper and hotter objectives. Since the early days of drilling HPHT wells, the oil and gas industry has now evolved to a stage where exploration and appraisal wells are drilled by most operators. Although HPHT wells still pose a significant challenge to our industry, exploration and appraisal drilling has been facilitated by the maturation and subsequent application of technologies increasing the chance of success. There are still gaps within the industry on how best to manage HPHT reservoirs in the long term, as well as have a robust understanding of risk mitigation flow assurance and well integrity not just at the casing wall, but also within the subsurface.

This workshop aims to equip participants with in depth discussion, knowledge and skills to enhance their ability to successfully plan, engineer and execute the drilling and completion of their HPHT wells. Major issues concerning HPHT well construction and HPHT specific circumstances, problems and challenges are explored here.

About the Workshop Facilitator:

Michael Gibson studied at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, UK and with Pacific Western University in the USA gaining a Bachelor’s Degree in

Mechanical Engineering, a Post Graduate Diploma in Offshore Engineering (with Distinction), Masters Degrees in Engineering Technology & Offshore Engineering and a PhD in HPHT Field Development all whilst working offshore in the North Sea. During the past 30 years he has advised many Operators & Drilling Contractors around the world on both how to successfully drill and produce HPHT reservoirs. Ranging from the Gulf of Mexico through to the North Sea through Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei in South East Asia. A champion of the “Teamwork” approach to engineering problems and solutions, the speaker regularly helps both Operators & Drilling Contractors to “solve” problems before they even begin. Mr Gibson is the recipient of several prize awards as a consequence of his services to the industry – not least from Shell, Exxon and BP.

Oil and gas companies face challenges to implement asset integrity management for new developments and existing aged infrastructure. In some of Asia’s regions, mature assets are now more than 40 years in operation and there are many new development projects planned and being implemented. The role of asset integrity has never been more critical to the global oil and gas business. Not only can a well-managed asset integrity framework help operators identify and reduce safety risks before they escalate, but focusing on asset integrity can also play a major role in both achieving operational excellence and extending the life of ageing assets.

This workshop aims to explore asset integrity management taking a wider view beyond inspection, maintenance, and repair activities and consider the concerns of asset integrity risks. New practices, competencies and technology solutions will be highlighted to meet the challenges of future projects and operations.

About the Workshop Leader:

Helge has more than 18 years of engineering experience and is currently employed as Technical Manager for the Marine and

Offshore Centre South-East-Asia by Bureau Veritas Australia. After graduating as mechanical engineer form the Technical University of Berlin, he worked for 13 years as noise and vibration engineer for the automotive industry in Germany and the United States. When he moved to Australia in 2008 he got involved in asset integrity and reliability work for the Oil & Gas Industry. Over his career he gained advanced knowledge in areas like; Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) Analysis, Compressor and Pump Pulsation, Durability and Fatigue Analysis and Validation, Asset Integrity Management, Noise and Vibration Harshness (NVH), Multichannel Data Acquisition and Analysis and Road-Load Simulators and Reliability Analysis.
