FIRST EL. MONEY INSTITUTIONS

EU aiming at monitoring unreasonably high bank charges in the year 2000 issued a directive „On the taking up, pursuit and prudential supervision of the business of electronic money institutions“ thus creating electronic money institution (EMI) concept.

FIRST EL. MONEY INSTITUTIONS In 2012 electronic money and electronic money institutions law has been

issued, according to which:Electronic money institution – body which received the license of electronic money institutions or electronic money institutions with limited operating license, which grants the right to issue electronic money in the Republic of Lithuania and other Member States.Electronic money – monetary value issued by the electronic money issuer with the following features:1. it is stored in electronic, including magnetic media;2. intended for payment transactions;3. accepted by the persons who are not electronic money issuers.Electronic money issuers – credit and electronic money institutions.

EL. MONEY INSTITUTION SAFETY

Separation of funds:• Customer funds are separate from other natural or legal persons funds;• Held in a special account opened with a credit institution of the Republic of Lithuania or a credit institution of another Member State;• Invested in secure, liquid, low-risk assets according to adopted legislation procedures of supervisory authorities

Funds insurance:• Clients funds are insured with a insurance contract;• Funds receive a guarantee of a surety bond issued by the insurance company or a credit institution of Republic of Lithuania or another Member State, insurance companies or credit institutions not belonging to the same as an electronic money institution group.

SEPARATION OF FUNDS• Funds are held in special bank accounts, which even in the case of a

bank failure must be returned to the client;• Funds cannot be subject to debt recovery according to electronic money

institutions liabilities;• Funds are not used in enterprise applications, lent and not invested, so

there is no risk of the funds to be insured from;• Customer data is stored and backed up on different servers, and even in

case of failure or fire data is protected;• Company conducts on regular basis internal processes and external

audits;• Supervised by Lietuvos bankas.
